it all depends on your preference. i like both and use them for different things. linux is free...well windows can also be free. if you are curious as to linux why not try a livecd, or just install win then install linux afterwards making a dualboot machine. one thing to consider is if you have only 1 pc and are using dialup, you can run into problems getting a winmodem to work.
