frankly, if i'm going to get anywhere at all, i'd want a more powerful editor than just an editor.. if you coded any length of time in any IDEs, you wouldn't want to go back to beginner editors like textpad..
therefore, i'd recommend a more full featured IDE, search on
www.sourceforge.net and you'll get tons of hits (notepad++ is a good piece of software, it tries to duplicate the functionality for windows platform, it's open source as well
