I just got an MSI NX8600GTS-T2D256E-OC GeForce 8600GTS
I have done clean installs on both Vista Ultimate and XP pro and I get the same problem.
Everything is going great through setup, and after the OS installs and then install all programs and drivers, but when I install the NVIDIA driver, either the one provided by MSI or directly from NVIDIA, shortly after my monitor randomly goes blank (power save) It seems to happen mostly when I open a new program. Also, when I try to update my VISTA windows experience score, as soon as it gets to the video part, without fail it happens...but only when the drivers are installed, when not, it does not happen..

Dell 2407wfp running at 1920x1200 at 60 refresh
Very confused here, this is happening in both XP PRO and VISTA ULT, but it does NOT happen until install the drivers for the VIDEO card..
