1394 is firewire and doesn't matter right now. If you don't see an icon in network connections for "local area connection", then you're probably missing the drivers for your ethernet adapter on the motherboard.

Look for the driver for your mobo's ethernet adapter and that will probably fix this issue for you. Of course you'll have to get it on the internet from somewhere else and put it on a jump drive or something along those lines.

Also- to double-check if it is actually missing the driver, go to device manager under system properties in the hardware tab at the top. Scroll down and look for yellow circled question (?) mark signs. If they are there saying no ethernet controller, or no audio controller or video controller. That means you're missing those specific drivers and you need to find them if you want to use them again.

It is normal during a reformat to sometimes/sometimes not lose drivers and have to reinstall them, and since I reformat mine so often is why I always backup my drivers and have them handy for reinstall. I would suggest that to you as well. Good luck!
