Default Help with Dell Laptop

Hi all
I just had a Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop given to me in pieces in a paper sack.
I knew the guy that gave it to me was having a problem with charging.
Upon inspecting it i saw that the power plug on the motherboard had two solder points broken lose.
So I took it all the way off and cleaned it up and resoldered it. The darn thing actually booted up and I was able to reinstall windows xp pro on it. Now to the problem.
If I leave the laptop sitting for over 5 minutes it wont get any power from the battery unless I take it out and slide it back in. And then it will give me a BIOS date error and the date is off again.
So I thought it was the bios battery but know i don't even know if laptops have bios batteries. OI don't remember seeing one.
Then when i slide it back in the lights blink once and i hit the on switch and it boots. The battery will charge to 100% and last about 35 minutes.
Is it my battery causing this or something more.
Thanks for reading this long winded post.
