Default TimeWarner ISP trouble. Disable DNS?

Ok, so i gave my friend a computer with windows XP Pro SP2 vanilla. During the first boot up, i skipped the step where it helps you connect to the internet. He has TimeWarner broadband internet service and is using a ARRIS Tm402g/110. Windows is telling him that he is connected but has limited or no connectivity. The tutorials on the timewarner website say to disable DNS and WINS Resolution, but the picutres they give look like windows 98 and the procress isnt the same on XP. I've never used timewarner so i dont know how they do things, but if anyone knows how to disable DNS in windows XP or just how to get timewarner internet working, help would be appreciated.
