the max is 800MB (or more if overburning) for a recordable CD. If you need more try using a DVD burner

While that is true for most CD burners, the Plextor Premium can burn up to 1GB onto a 700MB cd. But like you said, DVD is the way to go.

I'm using Nero to burn movies to CD, no DVD burner here. Many of the movies I receive are about 690-700MB, but Nero shows that the file is way too large to burn to CD(the graph is way over 800mb). I can't figure out what to do as far as burning goes and I don't want to diminish the quality too much, any suggestions?

The cd capacity is 700 Mb or 80 minutes .as far as the data fits into any of the 2 categories, you can safely burn stuff
allows high capacity storage of up to 1 GB on a 700 MB disc. With this advanced feature, you can increase the maximum writing capacity up to 40%*
that is the overburn (I think that's what it is called) technology, that fries cd/ dvd burner.

it is not worth the troulble

I think its time our society move beyond CDs for data. Before long, CDs will be as obsolete for data as 3 1/2 inch floppies. UT2004 has i think 6 CDs. I would imagine that next years games will have even more. Its time that DVD becomes the standard for data storage.

Posted by: ekĘsine

UT2004 comes in a DVD version doesn't it?

Posted by: sunsider

yep. going dvd is the way. dvd burners should be standard issue with pc's lol, just as floppy drives used to be.

You still need floppy drives for some things...don't get rid of them yet. Liz

wat do u use floppys for?

Posted by: southernlady

You need them for updating your bios, for some benchmarking programs. And if you are transfering very small files, floppies make sense esp if you happen to be transfering to an older computer at one end. Liz

I assume you're talking about burning V-CDs with Nero. The reason for your dilemna is that Nero is transcoding your files (to V-CD format) before it burns them. So, if your files were only 600mb, they might transcode to 700mb and fit on the disc.
