I did get a magazine which I forgot over my vacation on tinkering with the MTU to help with my net speed. anyone help me change this value?

I'm assuming that you have Cable or DSL.

Scroll down a bit and it tells you how to edit your registry value for MTU. I also suggest you change the other values.
