If your board does not detect it, you may have: Not installed the drive correctly(check your jumpers) Not formatted your drive(use a util provided by your manufacturer) No support for such a drive(your motherboard controller does not support that kind of drive). Example-> ATA100 drive on a ata33-66 controller. ATA100+ drives have a removed pin on their connect.
