Problem with external audio card

Hi everyone,

I have attached an external audio card (5.1 - 16 bit) on a USB hub not powered.
On the hub there where already connected a webcam and a mouse.
With the audio card plugged in, the webcam doesn't work anymore and even the mouse doesn't work properly.
Is it only a power problem (which I can fix by powering the hub) or the audio card is a high priority and bandwidth consuming component and should work on a dedicated USB port? In this case it's a problem because I have only one working port available on my laptpop.
