I found this while searching for info on Xbox2. Its a petition for making the Xbox2 backwards compatible with Xbox1 games.
Might want to take a look...

> it would be common sense that the next gen xbox would be backwards comp. w/the first gen games.. however this is ms where talking about here...

.. and it wouldnt surprise me if it was designed so you needed to purchase a $60 addon part just to do so.

Posted by: dethangel

that would be ridiculous... but id do it, itd still be ridiculous, lol

I'll keep my xbox so it doesn't matter but it'd be nice if M$ wants to compete with Sony on the next level.

Don't you hate how Microsoft made it so the controllers, plug into those 6 inch adapters that go into the XBOX? THey figure you'll lose those little adapters so you'll have to pay 15$ to get a pack of 5. I f'in hate that....

Posted by: anarchy

See, it's stupid bull crap like that. Microsoft makes you get all these little cables and connectors and remotes. For them it's a good move, financially. For consumers, it blows.

Posted by: anarchy

I said I know it's a great choice for them financially, but it sucks for consumers....like me...

Posted by: anarchy

Directed towards everyone that got suckered in....including you?

Posted by: anarchy

No, I was asking if you got suckered in like the rest of us did...

Posted by: anarchy

Ya, that's what I do too. I was suckered in by those pesky little connectors from your XBOX to your controller...little ****heads...

they have the controller things so you dont pull your xbox off the table if you hit a cable, theyre breakaway cables, its a good idea

Posted by: anarchy

Why don't they just have the controllers pull out easily than have those little adapters? It's all about money in today's world...

Posted by: Lonewolf5460

one that would damage the port two ps2 add ons cost a **** of alot more, the hard drive and the internet adapter and to play with more than two people you have to get a multitap thing before even getting the controlers. I know the mini ps2 does not need the adapter but **** ps2 costs more, xbox rules get used to it.And the game cube is just not worth it.

It is easier on the hardware to break away at the 6" point, one because it is a straight break (direct pull/break) and two, there is little force back on the plug socket. As far as backwards compatability, thats a shame but understandable because of the changing of vendors and especially the changing of the architecture (a HUGE difference there). They could do it, but that would require more research, hardware, price jumps and loss of market share because it would dramatically delay the release and considering most will already have an XBox anyhow, I'm sure they considered that in the final outcome.

Are NES games able to be played on SNES? Can I play SNES games on N64? Can I play Gameboy games on Gameboy Advanced? How about PS on PS2?

Why should XBox be different from any other console system? New console comes out, you gotta buy new games.

Can't we spend our time petitioning about something more useful? Like a petition against OPEC or or W.Bush?

Posted by: Nubius

lol yeah a petition is kind of........out there, but **** you can play PS1 games on the PS2 so why not make the XBOX have the same feature

Sucks they are going with ATI for graphics this round......and I'm assuming this Xbox2 will again be an intel processor which is retarded. It needs to be AMD and nvidia then it'd really kick ***

Posted by: majistic

I agree. W00T NUBIUS !

Posted by: JamesY

I think you guys are forgetting one important factor into their main decision if it isn't backwords compatible. Xbox has great graphics for its time, great games aswell, Xbox 2 will be even better. BUt in order to make the best gaming system out there, you have to have the best hardware and software running it, which means if you got old out dated games to be played, you need other **** on there that new games dont, if the focus on building one system, not 2, then they can build an ultimate.

Posted by: chickenfoot

Why would they change from the x86 to G5? I still don't understand...that means that IBM is in control of all 3 major console companies' systems.

Posted by: Lonewolf5460

I just thought if they do use the same ibm cpu will there be a way to cross platform
games to the other consoles.

Posted by: GrimReaper23

they even said it at e3 no matter what people say they are not going to make it bakwards compatiable so you would have to have both xbox... money *******s and it would cost about 60 usd for that adapter but it ain't going to happen. and as far as the contollers go just take care of your stuff ain't that hard.

Posted by: killians45

um, I watched it and they in fact DID say it will be backwards compatible... watch it again, the WHOLE thing
