Console Vs. Pc

what do you prefer: console gaming or pc gaming? why? if you could only have one.. which would it be, pc or console?

Posted by: thebleakness

That depends. Personally i would go with a computer because they are more versatile. Granted the new consoles have browsing capabilites too. As for gaming, i would rather game on a pc because i like the feel of the controls more than the console. The new consoles have much better graphics cards and processing power but i would still take a pc. The small diference between the two really isnt that important to me.

Posted by: biggjoee5790

i like pc's better also. about the video cards.... companys put out a console like once every 3-4 years (ps2 to ps3, xbox-xbox360) throughout those years, the graphic card in the console never gets upgraded, so isnt it true that even though the new consoles have better cards than new pc's, in a year or so the pc cards will pull ahead because the consoles will have the same ones until a new console comes out, but pcs can be upgraded everytime new hardware comes out? hope you understand what i just said because i barely understand what i said :)

Posted by: thebleakness

I understand what you said and it is true. The gpus that the new generation consoles have are top of the line at the moment. In a few years/months whatever when newer cards come out, pc owners will be able to upgrade and make their computers better than the consoles. For console owners though, games will always be made to those standards and with a pc, the games will use the higher end equip that it can so the console owners dont have to spend extra to play the new games on max settings. New generation consoles are truely awesome machines that would equal a very nice computer right now and are very affordable compared to a nice computer. Alot depends on your budget and what you want to get out of it.

Posted by: biggjoee5790

yepp.. i gotcha. well anyway.. whats gonna be in that half built laying on your kitchen table? :)

Posted by: thebleakness

This is going to be my baby:

Opteron 148 (CAB2E)
2x 120gb Seagate barracudas in RAID1
eVGA 7800GT w/ copper heatsink
Zalman 9500 cpu cooler
Xion II case (it was on sale)
2 x 1gb G. Skill Extreme Series RAM

No contest...I'm a diehard PC gamer.
Consoles are great, I own three of them to prove it. The thing is, they will never be able to match the PC's versatility or it's ability to evolve so quickly. Plus, you can't create anything on a console; with the right knowledge and patience, you can make your own game on a PC.
Just my opinion though. I'd still kill anyone who puts a finger on my Xbox...lol

Posted by: thebleakness

I might get one of the new generation consoles when they drop in price but not at the moment. I like having xbox parties and playing Halo. Those are alot of fun, especially with alot of people. I wonder how they will be with the new generation.

Posted by: BandwidthHogg

PCs of course are better but consoles are the future because of marketting and also people's lack of desire to purchase a gaming PC. Most people think
"why spend $1500 on a PC to play games when I can spend $400 and play the same games and not have to worry about framerate issues, compatability issues, etc.?"
This is the reason most people buy consoles for games and then just buy a $299 Dell for their PC to surf the web and do word processing with. Its only going to get worse for PC gamers as the gap grows between gaming PCs and mainstream PCs and more and more people make the switch.

Posted by: biggjoee5790

yeppp .. i see what your saying.. ive always been a fan of pc gaming.. its just that i havent had an up to date computer for a while now. Now that im getting so into it.. i plan on staying on top of the new technology.. that doesnt mean im gonna spend $600 every time a new video card comes out.. but ill keep my pc updated so it can always play the newest games. im just tired of consoles... ive owned every console you could imagine.. but for me, theres no comparison to playing a FPS on a PC. i remember playing counterstrike constantly when i first got it. also it seems like all of the best games came out for the pc (just my opinion)
Half life, diablo 2, warcraft 3, etc.

Posted by: killians45

well, current consoles are more than just a high tech GPU. They also have a new type of architecture that will take a little longer for the PC to catchup with (and be affordable). So, I'd say around 3years. Plunk $400 every 3 years for a new console. Plunk 300-400 for a new top line vid card, possibly new PSU because of new power demands, plus look at the new multi core and procedural synthesis, cache demand and sharing architecture, etc... adds up pretty fast. Really saying that PC's can be upgraded and consoles can't isn't much of an argument because you would be getting a new console every 2 or 3 years with graphic, processor, etc upgraded via new console launch. You do the same with a computer, only with a new vid card that costs almost as much as the console itself. I think the REAL reason to get a PC is a game library that is much more vast. Still love my console, thbough. Still love my PC.

what do you prefer: console gaming or pc gaming? why? if you could only have one.. which would it be, pc or console?
Over all, PC as I do a lot more on a PC. Plus with my current job, a PC is a lot easier for me to claim on Tax.

Posted by: Hovertime

I think that Console's are better for gaming then PC's are. I have always found that I don't like it as much on the PC at all however I think that I'm going to see what PC gaming has to offer once I upgrade my computer to play new games. The reason's are the mouse isn't good for certain types of games like Racing. How can you play a racing game with a keyboard and have fun?? You would have to buy another controller to make it feel normal or a racing wheel for your PC that costs over $29.00 extra.

Consoles have given me a better feeling then playing a PC game every time. The only PC games that are better then the console games (that are the same just ports) are GTA2 and The Sims. There may be more but I have played many and emulaters for PS1 games. Once the PS3 comes, There will be the add on of the KB+M and then FPS will be great on consoles for the first time.

Computers are great for hacking games and cheating on the other things and consoles can do that too but not as easy and you have to pay for the cheating device like Gameshark, Code Breaker, Action Replay, ect. Computers rule in that area.

Posted by: Mr_Threepwood

I hate not being able to minimize and do something else, plus PC monitors are much sharper. PCs own consoles hands down in every aspect except price. Consoles are like some sort of communists dream.

Posted by: Hovertime

I also find the games to be much better on the consoles. Burnout is on the consoles only and the speed is mind-blowing. Final Fantasy 9 isn't on the PC ether and that's the best game ever made. What's up? God of War, MGS2, MGS3, Kingdom hearts, and so many more it's countless. People tell me that PC's are better, all I can say is the games for it aren't really fun at all and most games on the PC I play for 1 hour and stop playing after that.

Posted by: killians45

I'm a big console fan, but there are games I wouldn't play anywhere else but on a PC. I love both. I will stick up for both.

Posted by: NewCents05

EVERYONE ok ok ok here we go
everyone thinks that pc>console
http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/genericContent.do?oid=136789&c=1&cm_re=Video%20Game%20Microsite-_-navigation-_-PlayStation%203

mother f'in ps3 baby read the description

Under it's sleek exterior, the PlayStation 3 features a Cell processor and RSX Nvidia graphics chip to produce high-definition images with 1,080 lines of resolution. The PS3 will be able to play all the games in the PlayStation library as well as Blu-Ray discs for more detailed games. The PlayStation 3's Bluetooth wireless connection can support up to seven controllers, or you can use your PSP™ as a controller or remote display. With its two HDMI outputs, the PlayStation 3 will be able to output to two 1080p video streams at the same time for dual-screen HDTV gaming. You can even go beyond gaming, and use your PS3 for video chat, audio files, accessing the Internet, and viewing digital photos and videos.

video chat, audio files, accessing the internet and viewing photos/videos...waaaaaait but pc is still better than console right???????? it is a fricking pc!!!!!! I WOULD DEF TAKE THE PS3 OVER A **** ALIENWARE ANYDAY. dual hdmi outputs!!!! holy shiznit dual hdtv screen action could you imagine the possibilities. plussss you can walk around the house accesing your ps3 thru your psp so plleaaaaase someone tell me why pc is better than console again? and dont tell me about graphics cause 1080p is the highest definition possible right now. what good is good graphics on a pc with a crappy monitor?

Posted by: Hovertime

Yes NewCents05 is right about that. I would take a PS3 over a PC anyday due to the mind-blowing games that will come out and the power it holds. Can anyone think what Burnout would be like on that??? Already the PS2 and current consoles and pump out great graphics but just wait for Next-gen consoles!

Can a PC play a game like burnout Revenge? One would think so but you have to wonder if it can take it. Maybe that's why it's not a PC. Can anyone find the fastest racing game on the PC that is new? Don't say Need For Speed at all please.

Well that is a funny post. The bottom line is you beat the game first and then if you want you can cheat and find things not seen before. Saying cheating sucks only applys to online cheating and buying a game and right away and then cheating. However cheating in old games and hacking it is a very fun thing to do.

Did I say anything about online cheating?? No I didn't because I don't play very many games online. One thing is, anyone can bypass that scanning thing if you got really good at cheating and really knew what you were doing. Cheating software doesn't need to be running if you make up your own.:) That would need a lot of work though.

Exactly, thats when i do cheat if at all to make the replay value of a game go up. One of my friends will only buy a game if your able to cheat to begin with. He doesnt even try first without cheating. I dont like it when people cheat online because that just takes away so much of the fun of going up against others.

Posted by: biggjoee5790

OOhh ok i misunderstood you. i thought you meant online. single player is fine... i cheat all the time in grand theft auto and games like that. after i beat it without cheats.. its fun to have every weapon in the first minute of the game.. and being able to demolish anyone... but im still against online cheaters

I got Call of Duty 2 for the PC, and looks even better on my PC (w/ o.k. specs of 3.0 GIG P4, 1 GIG memory, Nvidia 6600 256MB 8xAGP card) than the XBOX 360 version I've seen & played.
And that's taking into consideration I'm playing the PC version on a good 'ol fashion CRT screen, while the 360 version I'm comparing it to is played on an HD Plasma!
Anyone else not so impressed with the supposed prowess of the 360?? PC versions look just as good or better, IMO.
Maybe the PS3 will really make a difference for next gen consoles, but will wait & see
P.S. Let's see if that Killzone 2 "demo video" that everyone's talking about really looks like THAT when the actual PS3 system and the game comes out!

I heard the same thing from another PC gamer before and I think it's true. However that could be just for that one game. Someone said that PGR3 looks like the best racing game in terms of graphics and not even a PC can pull those graphics out. I think he is wrong but not crazy.

i like PC beter. i only have owend PS2 and NES. so cant say much about the new consoles.
but i just like playin games w/ keys and mouse w/ monitors in front of me.
so mb when PS3 comes out i might gonna try it out cuz i can use keys and mouse w it.
and it seems like better graphix than xbox360. expensive tho...new gpu or ps3...
+ it depends on games too...i mainly play online multiplayer games so well see how good thats gonna be..but usually same game comes out on PC anyway so as long as i own PC, ill still play game on PC i guess.

Posted by: zack_the_pwner

well i like PC games for FPS and single player games cause i have a slow internet connction. so i play alot of multiplayer games on consol but if i could have DSL or cable id pick PC oever anything. i dont really like hacing to pay 100s of dollars everytime a new system coms out if you get a really nice PC your set for a while and most games that come out for consol come out for PC as well and playing them on PC is better by far, i played doom3 on PC and Xbox .it was okay on Xbox but i liked it better for PC.my over all pick is PC

That post is wrong in almost every way thinkble. You don't like paying 100's of dollers for a console every 5-6 year's but you like paying for a nice PC that costs over $1000 if it's a good one and paying more every time you want to upgrade it. That is more money then:confused: . Consoles are way cheaper. Also most games on consoles don't really come out on the PC unless the company wants to. Killzone, Halo 2, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, GT3, GT4, MGS2, MGS3, FFX, Devil may cry, All Mario games, Burnout, and so many more are all on Consoles but NOT on PC.

So many of these threads.............I choose pc. It costs quite a bit more, but then it does more than play games, you can play ANY game on it(even console only games if you have the right programs....), mouse and keyboard are better than controllers, you can also get controllers though along with joysticks, downloadable content, dont need to pay money for online play(unless its like WoW or something, in which those types of games cost monthly for consoles also), you can change settings, dont have to drop a crap load of money for an hdtv, the list goes on.

thats exactly what it comes down to... regardless of cost.. The ultimate, most up to date and sickest pc > the newest console.. IMO

the gap between the two grows even larger as new advancements for the pc come out every 3-4 months.. while the console keeeps the same exact hardware for 3-4 years..until a new console is made

to me.. pc gaming is for the gamer who is more in depth. the more hardcore gamers are usually pc gamers because pcs have more options... (mods, map creators, hacks, etc) ...in my experiance, console gamers are less intense.. they play alot but not as serious. for example.. the people i know who play games once in a while.. own consoles. mainly because its a one time thing, you dont have to update anything. its ready to go immediately. the people i know who are serious gamers.. are pc gamers.. because theres tons of room to expand on the pc.. there are more options.. and therefore.. it doesnt get boring as quickly.. this is obviously my opinion so dont go crazy if you disagree :)

Posted by: samstokes

For gaming, I personally prefer consoles, because they are easy to deal with - user-friendly, and you don't have deal with hardware updates, etc.

But PC's are more versatile, so maybe it's a toss-up.

Ya know, there's only a certain number of things you can talk about in a gaming forum. Don't you think it's better to use a thread already there than to have a thousand threads that are the same?

On topic:
I can get a lot more free games for my pc. My current pc can play games I've had for years as well as new ones. My current pc can emulate a lot of the old consoles and computers I used to have without having to dig them out and hook them up to my tv. If I get a new computer in the future, it will be able to play the games I have now.

bro i can find a bunch of threads "gaming system or console" alot more recent than this. this is just a random old one he dug up. i didnt mean anything by that to be insulting i just wanted to make a joke out of it so chill

Posted by: TheOtis

My reason for going towards console gameing more now, is money. I'm 19, in college, and can't drop $500 every 6 months on computer upgrades like I could in high school.

Plus, that $500 for a PS3 does alot for me. I have a awesome console, it play blu-ray movies, i'll have YDL on it, a external hard drive, play all my movies and songs on it, download emulators for YDL so I can play older console games.

It's like having a killer PC, that's also a blu-ray player, that's also a media center PC, for $500, plus the cost of the external hard drives.

Posted by: Cdub89

FPS is a whole different world on the PC. I used to be a die hard Sony fan i played Socom 3 daily when it first came out. Now im playing Rainbow Six Vegas daily and some other games. Also you can jam out to your tunes on the PC when playing a game.

Posted by: OTOnly

Console for Car Racing
PC for everything else

Posted by: Cyber Hunter

I would prefer PC over Console but a Gaming Console is designed for Gaming. Overall I would choose a PC because it's used for Gaming as well as many other features.

Posted by: Chris Chadwick

PC all the way i have a ps2 an have had it over a year an only played on it a hand full of times. I have played on pretty much every console out there (apart from the PS3) there is nothing about consoles the controls are hard to use an when you get down to it PC's have the advantage over consoles because of what's available you can download MOD's an play on-line.

Whilst on the subject I refuse to play Nintendo games as i don't like the systems an also the games are pathetic with most of them being designed for the Japanese market an not making any sense.

Posted by: Cyber Hunter

Most games are on PC so it would most definetly be PC.

Posted by: Lorton63

i would have to say console even though i have no logical argument or reason. possibly because i could never spend the time playing computer games growing up because someone else in my family would kick me offf the computer for some reason. Console i could play whenever, so i guess it stems from my childhood...

Posted by: Prophaniti

Depends on the game really, FPS is good on either but for RTS or MMO, its PC all the way

.. that may all change though depending on what they release for the consoles, being able to connect a keyboard to a console may change everything

but if i had to choose one, it would definitely be PC

Posted by: xtraze

PC gaming for me.
As it cant be much easier than using your Keyboard and your mouse. But for racing games, I use a steering wheel.
