Howdy

I dont have a linux YET, but im quite interested in getting one. All i was wondering was if Linux has the same power as windows to detect a LAN connection. So ill just be able to have the network cable into the back of my computer, and Linux will do the rest.

Thanks.

Linux is pretty good about recognizing wired LANs on install and automatically setting them up. It's not so easy with WLAN and Dial-up connections, though.

its good at supporting and detecting NIC's, but its lousy at autodetecting LAN types and then autoconfiguring that.......not that it matters, its quite easy to set up a LAN with linux anyway

Just give it a try, that's the only way you will find out. There's a bunch of people that will try and help if it doesn't work out.
