Jeez i still have disk's from year's ago without any scratche's on them,They are either trying to burn a copy from their friend or 1 they got off the net so screw them ;) Posted by: Apokalipse yeah, I used to be like that. now I just buy games, then make an image on my hard drive so I can run them without the CD. my computer is not the greatest, so the games I buy that it will run are not going to cost that much anyway. Posted by: DMo224 TF's stand in the past has been to lock or delete those threads. It keeps us from bordering on the legal/illegal question. I'll continue to close and lock, or delete, those as I see them. I suggest that when you find one that you use the report thread function so a Forum Leader can take care of it. Replying to it does NOT help, especially if one is giving advice on how to accomplish it. So, don't reply to it. [b]Thanks for the poll and continued interest, and your support of TF's stand. I might lend some of my games to freinds, but I tell them to find their own serial number. IMO, it should be "ok" to instruct people on how to "backup" disks.. Just not to bypass the serial # checks or any other security measures which would violate copyright laws. But, simply making a binary duplicate of a CD should be legal. I guess it's location dependent as well. I mean, can't TF just say "we are not violating any copyright laws by answering this question"?.. Obviously [law != TF policy] as there are things like porn which is legal but won't be tolerated on TF. But, that is with a good reason. The presence of children. What's the reason with regards to "backups"?.. Obviously, some people will lie and say they own the CD when they infact don't. But, from a legal viewpoint, is that really TF's problem?.. After all, as regular members of TF, we are simply showing them how to do something which is "legal" in the eyes of the law. If they misuse it, shouldn't it be there own problem? Now all those websites that teach you about guns, are they responsible if someone goes and kills someone with the knowledge learnt from them? Posted by: DMo224 I think those have all been good points, some that I've wondered about in the past (like explaining how to make legal backups). Sometimes it's best to stay away from anything that even appears illegal, as in if a backup is really for legal purposes. Whichever way we go, there must be an assumption that all of those questions are for legal backups. I don't have a problem with explaining how to legally do what you can legally do (that was a heck of a sentence). The line could be when talking about serials, cracks, internet downloads, etc. This will be something that the owners and Forum Leaders will also want to discuss and make a clearer decision. Posted by: Vormund Don't censor the right to make a backup copy of a game...hah...I wouldn't have all my mints now if I didn't have the ability to copy them! Muahaha. But really, all the threads are pointless...so just make one sticky, FAQ, or just lock them and say 'search!' I don't care for game companies putting these annoying-arse protections on the CD, as how many people does it really stop? Games are released and "cracked" within a day, spread-wide not much further off... if people are going to buy the game, they'll do so anyway. It's seems that just about every day I see another Noob typing up things like "I can not get my copy version of [INSERT GAME HERE] to work" or "How can I play [i]back-uped[/i] games" thread. I have a few suggestions. 1. Zero Tolerance Warez = Ban Policy. 2. Add word gamecopyworld to your censored swear list. Also the some of the other names of other URL for No CD Cracks. TF is here to answer question, and yes it does seem borderline, but whatever their intentions - it'll be their problem. I, too, have been one of the "5%" who backs up their games, why?... because sometimes I lose them, or my mom/cousins accidently throw it out. Obviously, if someone asks to make copies of games, that's when you delete them.
