I mean the original Nintendos have Superb Mario (Super Mario) games, and the N64 has Goldeneye, Zeldas, Banjo Kazzoi, and Donkey Kong. What can get better than that? Posted by: consolemax_com I would agree up to SNES. The N64 was ok, but besides a hadnful of games it didn't do much else. The PSX lived from 1995-2004 when they finally quite producing PSX games. It also may not have had Mario and good ol' Donkey Kong, but it had truckloads full of quality games. Posted by: macdude425 Nintendo started to lose it's American grip with the N64, and even slightly with the SNES. Their best system, IMHO, was the best seller, and that was the NES. But the N64, IMHO, was Nintendo's first big flub. Cartridge consoles were becoming obsolete in 1996, and Nintendo stuck their neck out and released one. The fact that the Playstation, a superior CD based system released the year [b]before[/b], was better hurt them more. Games like DK and Zelda which date back to years before the Sony Playstation, which originally NINTENDO was going to make. Milliteq, you say the N64 was better than the N64 because of a few games, but in my original statement I said they had a handful of games while the PSOne had truckloads. It's funny how you say the N64 was better even though they quit making games in 2000. The PSOne quit coming out with games in 2004...hmm... Most of the games they are still putting out are only appealing to people who grew up with them. I am still rooting for Nintendo, hoping they will get back on track and become #1 again, but if they don't start doing something other than Mario and Zelda all those people who grew up with those games are no longer going to be gameing, and were going to have a generation of gamers who don't care about those games, because the new generation is growing up with Halo, and Grand Theft Auto, if you know what I mean. I was playing back in the original Super Mario Bros. days on the NES. I actually might have it somewhere maybe in the attic. Up until N64 Nintendo ruled the world. The N64 blew, and I am not a big fan of the GameCube. I loved Sega Genesis the best, man I would play every Mortal Kombat from sun-up to sun-down, this was before I started skating heh. Posted by: Blackmoore Thats true, I think cartridges were a much better option than CD's, especially now. With CD's you get one scratch, or someone accidentially steps on it, and your done, the game is toast. I can see why CD's were better 5 years ago, but I don't know why they continue to use them now. Why not just put games on a Thumb Drive, or a Memory Stick. Or just load up all the games on the net so you can buy them and download them. (Which I think they are doing with a lot of Nintendo's older games, for the Revolution). They could even make CD's that are only used to load the game up onto the systems internal hard drive, and then you don't have to worry about disks anymore. Either way, CD's are old technology, and they're outdated. Its time for something new. Posted by: jjrodezno yep, the only reason we still use cds is because of production costs. cds are way cheaper than any kind of removable media.. even the price of dvd-rs has dropped like crazy. I can get a 50 pack of blank dvd-r for $13.99 and a 100 pack of blank cd-r for $20, while a 1GB pen drive costs around what? $60. So in that aspect i can understand why we still got games distributed in cd format. The cheaper the production, the cheaper we get it so i got no complains. If you mishandle your cds.. what can i say.. learn to take care of your stuff.. backup your data.. GOLDENEYE!!!! How can you forget that though, and lets not forget Perfect Dark, almost perfect in everyway even to today's standards... One thing nintendo did do that i wasn't rapt about was the it was marketed as a 64-bit system (which it wasn't) it was two 32bit processors running together! PS sucked how bad were the graphics! Yes, the PS1 was more advanced technologically, but the games pretty much sucked for PS1, even worse than the PS2 (which still sucks). I think its time for Nintendo to quit recycling old games continually. Mario is awesome, don't get me wrong, but it seems like with each new Nintendo console its the same exact story with just better graphics. If they are going to continue to use Mario, at least expand on the story a bit! [/B][/QUOTE] the story of mario has been improved and sometimes remade to make a new game. ie. mario rpg, paper mario, **** even yoshi's story... the point is that newer mario games always have new and old elements that give it a familiar look with a new twist. altho u can say that the gameplay/plot is similar and to a point repetitive (good guy mario needs to defeat evil to rescue peach..) i agree. but u have to admit that nintendo is not the only using this basic formula to make quality games. i'm also not trying to discredit ur comments, its ur opinion and we all see things from different perspectives. well this is mine.
