Anyhow I have been using PCs for like 13 years now ever since windows 3.1. I am thinking about making the transition over to Mac but of course I will keep my PCs and mainly use them for gaming and 3DsMax. I am in school right now for Web design, computer graphics and what not and have been using OSX alot for the first time at school and I really love it. Most of my fellow students use Macs and almost all of the teaches use Macs for workstations and PCs for gaming. Anyhow to get to the point, i am getting some grant money soon that is not going to be going towards tuition and I was thinking about getting a Powerbook, probably a 15 inch because the 12 inch would be to small for design and a 17 inch is way to big to bring to school everyday. I was going to get the 15in 1.67ghz with 2GB ram and up the video memory to 128mb. I was considering just getting a Dual G5 but right now since I go to school 50 hours a week and dont work, i can only afford one or the other. But if i got the G5 then I would have no portability which I need for school, anyhow one question is is that do u think the 15 inch Powerbook 1.67 ghz with 2gb can handle programs like Photoshop, illustrator, aftereffects, Final Cut, Indesign with no problems?? Also what big things do I need to be concerned about when switched from PC to Mac??? Posted by: bla!! It could definatelly handle all of those, but not at the same time. I have the 1.33 Powerbook G4 and run Illustrator and photoshop very well. I'm sure that the rendering in Finalcut would take a while, but it would still work. Posted by: emeraldice I had a dream that I had a 12 in powerbook and a my regular PC...it was really cool. (I think i felt rich) Anyways, that 15 in powerbook will do you fine. a dual G5 is nice, but it will only speed up already quick tasks only a little bit. Posted by: ATIRAGEPRO 3DSMAX and Cinema 4D renders Esier on a Mac than it dose on a PC. Posted by: emeraldice Maybe cauze 3DSMAX and cinema 4D were made on a mac first, then ported to PC. I dunno. Posted by: Lucky_Penguin Do they have 3dsmax 7 on mac? Also whats this im hearing about Mac going to change to intel chips? Also is it worth gettin a powerbok g4 now or are they going to release a powerbook g5 soon?? Posted by: ATIRAGEPRO I have 3dsMAX on a PowerMac 7100 LOL It's sad, but true. Intel is going to make Mac CPUs. PowerBook g5 is coming in two months :) PS: I hope that one day, Apple starts making Mac clones again :( Posted by: emeraldice Mac won't change to intel chips...if they do, I won't recomment macs anymore...they'll be expensive and they won't run as well. I dunno about G5 ibooks - they've been having problems w/ them. Power consumption and heat...they cauzed problems. They might just skip to G6.... Psh, no they aren't ATIRAGEPRO...they aren't...that would be really, really, stupid. I can see that you know NOTHING About marketing. Apple dominated 15% more of the Comp market when they were making clones then they do today. Intel chips in macs is what would be stupid :( Posted by: Brtnboarder495 Yea definetely, my dad has a G4 17" 1 ghz, 1 gig and he runs PS CS fine with no issues at all. Since you basically have double the power you will be fine! If anything you should be able to open the apps faster. All the apps you listed are available, run better, and seem to be more native on macs. The only thing macs can't do that PC's can are open exe. files and they can't game that well, however because you have a PC for that you are fine and have the best of both worlds! Welcome to the world's most advanced computing! :) Posted by: Lucky_Penguin Yea i got my Dual G5 and it rocks. I even bought an older G4 1 Ghz 12' iBook for 600 bucks from a friend just to take notes on and stuff in class. vBulletin Copyright ©2000 - 2003, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited.
