I`m the question has been asked in a previous forum topic but I just can`t seem to find the subject. I have just recently started to get those annoying pop ups. When I right click on most of them , I find that they are fastclick.net. I have run my AVG as well as ad-aware and spybot s&d and have also just downloaded spyblaster thinking that would possibly do the trick. Spybot listed fastclick almost every time, but still they (pop-ups) keep coming back. I did a system search by using the "containg text" box and found quite a few entries. Is there a program out there that can find where that file (fastclick) is resident? I can`t help but think that spybot s&d doesn`t really fix the problem long term. Ad-Aware comes up with entries for this as well as others , but it seems as though these programs only go the surface and they don`t dig deep enough to matter. When I click "Start" , "My computer" doesn`t exist. But it is on the desktop. But when I click on the "My Compter" icon on the desktop, "Tools" isn`t there. Under the "View" tab, the "Folder Options" is there but reads... Files and Folders (unchecked)------Allow All Upper Case Names (unchecked)------Display the full path in title bar Hidden Files (Unchecked)------Do not show hidden Files (CHECKED) ------Do not show hidden files or system files (unchecked)------Show all files You can most likely see that it is probably showing a difference in termanology and that`s all. But Ijust want to be sure what I`m doing(or attempting to do) is correct. Also, while I`m at it, should I remove my existing Ad-Aware first before I download the SE Build 1.05? I assume it`s a free program. Thanks for being there. I don`t mean to be a pest! Jay Posted by: rstones12 No problem. Here are the Windows 98 instructions for show hidden files: Windows 98 * Open My Computer. * Select the View menu and click Folder Options. * Select the View Tab. * In the Hidden files section select Show all files. * Click OK. When you install the new version of Ad-Aware SE it will give you the option of removing the old version, go ahead an do that. Then run the directions I have provided and post back a new HJT log. Thanks rstones12 Posted by: Jay Francis rstones; A few questions before I continue... After I ran panda, it found 4 areas with problems. It fixed 2 but left 2. I saved the report. Did you need or want a copy of that report? Or can you all see it from the future log I will be doing later? Also, I just attempted to update Spybot S&D and it gave me 3 updates. - English help for teatimer - Main Skins - for colorblind people - Startup info - updated startup entry descriptions. I found that, going to a different mirror site helped, but even so, I still came up with ...!!!Bad Checksum! for the "Teatimer" Should I continue trying to get it? Or is it something I can possibly do without? I thought I`d better ask before I ran a "Check For Problems " scan. Also, after I ran the Panda scan, which was a complete scan, I did the reboot as was mentioned but it hung and I had to do a hard boot to shut it down. I figured that could be a common thing. I never really had that problem before. Thanks again, Jay Posted by: rstones12 Do you have TeaTimer running in Spybot? You can disable that feature. Let me know if you dont know how. Go ahead and post a new HJT log and I will take a look at it. Thanks, rstones12 Posted by: Jay Francis That`s just it...I don`t know or can`t even tell where to check whether I have it or not. I sort of got the idea that I don`t have it running due to the fact that it says that it needs to be updated. I`m trying to follow your directions just exactly as you were kind enough to give me. I haven`t done a recent Spybot check for problems at this point or the Ad-Aware SE full scan. I guess the bottom line is that if the teatimer is not a critical issue right now, I will continue on as if I was normal(LOL) Thanks again...Jay Posted by: rstones12 Jay, Here is how to check and see if Tea Timer is running. 1. Start Spybot S&D. 2. Go to the menu and click on Mode, then select advanced. 3. Then on the left side of the screen you will see a choice that is labeled "Tools" open that item. 4. Select Resident, once that opens you will see two checkmark boxes, the second box is for Tea Timer. Go ahead and "uncheck" that box. 5. Restart Spybot S&D and things should be back to normal. If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask. Thanks, rstones12 Posted by: Jay Francis Rstones; Many thanks first of all for the assitance with this popup problem. I have just run a Spybot check and the message that I got was kind of strange... Error during check!: DeardRocher (Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 005FD5D2 in Module "SPYBOT.EXE". Lesen von Adresse 02D73FFF)0 Below that is says Congratulations message. If you think I should do a complete run of all of your instructions that you had previously given me to fix this , I will be more that happy to. I am still having the same nightmare! When I right clicked on one of them , I came up with "bidclix". I can`t believe that these seem to be legit sites! Also, back about a year ago, I had taken the computer to a shop to replace the hard drive. When they did this, the techs moved all of my previous files into a directory called "Olddata". If I delete that directory, will it remove anything necessary for the clean peration of the computer and will it completely clear all of the information out in including stuff that may be in the registry? I guess the main thing is that message that looks to be German that concerns me first. I really appeciate you folks being out there! Jay Posted by: rstones12 Jay, You may want to uninstalll Spybot S&D and then reinstall it. I have seen this error before or something similar at the Net Integration forums. Cleaning out temp files: Navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder. Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK. Hope this helps rstones12 Posted by: Jay Francis Rstones I just finished the new download of SpyBotS&D.
