I am wondering if I can hook up my computer in one room and the monitor in a separate room? What do I need to do that? I'm thinking about buying a Gateway FPD2185W LCD monitor which has USB ports. Is there a way to utilize these so that my computer and monitor can communicate wirelessly? Posted by: GSM CEO Im afraid not, Unless you can find an extention sord fr the screen but it just seems all a bit dodgy...why not just put the computer in the room you want it in? Posted by: bla!! There's a couple ways of doing this. The easiest would be buying a looong VGA/DVI cable and just run that from the comp to the monitor. The second is you can get a VGA to Cat5 converter and run cat5 cable from one to the other. You need a converter at each end and they aren't that cheap. It has the same limitations of standard wireless with distance and devices that can interrupt the signal (microwave, cordless phone, etc...) One is hooked up to my modem and I have a Linksys router to split the signal (wireless or wired). The other computer doesn't have wireless capabilities, so I was hoping to hook up the second computer to the router in the same room as the first computer, and then put the monitor in another room, without cables running across the floor. I could just get a wireless card for the second computer to connect to the internet in another room, but it would just be way cooler to have just the monitor in a separate room and have the ability to move the monitor to other rooms throughout the house easily. It just seems like the same technology for wireless mice and keyboards via USB could be utilized for a wireless monitor. The monitor I plan on buying also has composite video and component video connections. Would something like this work to transmit video wirelessly?
