I have one hooked up that send my internet to my desktop computer, my laptop, and my Xbox 360. I then have my second one just hooked up to a printer, since my other router doesn't have a connection to go to a printer. I would just use the one that has the printer connection, but it is too slow to play on Xbox Live with. So, I have to use both. I was wondering if there was anyway that on my laptop I could connect to both routers, so that I don't have to keep disconnecting from my internet one and then connect to the printer one and then go back a forth eveytime I want to print something? Posted by: Lorithad You can indeed. First thing you'll need to do is to set up your printer router to be a switch instead of a router. Disable the DHCP server on it. For the sake of making things easier, give it a static IP address on the same subnet as your wireless router. Now plug the printer router into the wireless router. Do not use the port designated for incoming internet connections(the one that normally goes to the modem) to plug the printer router into the wireless router. For some reason that seems to gunk up the works. Or at least it did for me when I set up my routers. Hope that helps :D Posted by: B-rock sorry im new to this stuff so what does this mean?: You can indeed. First thing you'll need to do is to set up your printer router to be a switch instead of a router. Disable the DHCP server on it. For the sake of making things easier, give it a static IP address on the same subnet as your wireless router. Posted by: Lorithad I'll explain it in step by step details for you if you give me the models of both of the routers involved. Posted by: B-rock ok, the main one is a Linksys WRT54G V.5 and the printer one is a US Robitics Wireless MAXg Router USR5461. Posted by: Lorithad K. So i'm assuming you don't use the US robotics one for it's wireless. On your US robotics router, log in. -In a browser type in 192.168.2.1 If it's your first time logging into this router, you'll need to go through it's initial setup. If not, use the username and password for the router and log in. Once you're past the setup (if you were there at all) click on the "LAN" tab. Scroll down and uncheck "DHCP server" - save. Next, lets just disable the wireless aspect of it. You're using your linksys wireless anyway. No point in having both of them active. Click the wireless tab, uncheck allow wireless connections. - save. Now we'll assign a static IP address to the router. Click the "internet" tab. Verify the dot is in the "Cable, DSL router, satellite, ISDN, LAN, or other" spot. Scroll down and put a check in the box that says "My ISP provided an IP address for my Internet connection". A few boxes will appear that you should fill in. Here's what to put them as: Static IP address: 192.168.1.200 Subnet mask:255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 DNS servers: 192.168.1.1 WINS servers: 192.168.1.1 Once those numbers are in, hit save. Be warned, once you hit save, you will not be able to access this router through this console anymore. You will be able to once this is all finished though. The new IP you use to log into the router once this is all done is 192.168.1.200 Now you want to disconnect your us robotics router from your computer. Take a straight through (standard network cable) and plug it into any port (1-4 only. DO NOT USE THE WAN PORT.) Take the other end of the cable, and plug it into ports 1-5 on your linksys router. Now reconnect to your linksys router. You will now be able to access your printer from your wireless network. Your US robotics router will also now work as a switch. So in the event that you have some friends over for a LAN party, they can plug into that to be on your network as well. Hope this was clear enough for you. Any more questions, feel free to ask :) Oh. And in the event that you need to reset your US robotics router back to the defaults, press and hold in the little reset button on the back of it for 30 seconds using a paper clip. Posted by: B-rock OK, followed everyting to waht you said, but my comptuer can't find the printer when it goes to print. So, do I need to type in a new adress for my printer? Posted by: Lorithad Yes. I think. I haven't set up a print server in quite some time. But as far as I remember, the printer has it's own IP address, as it is a network device. I don't know how to set the address for your printer, but if you know where to do that, give it an IP of 192.168.1.199 Default gateway 192.168.1.1 Then re-add the printer through windows. Posted by: B-rock Before I did all this, I use to have it hooked up to the US Robotic and to make it print I when to add printer on my laptop and typed in http://192.168.2.1:1631 Now, I don't know what I have to do now that I have the US Robotic one runnign through the Lynksis one. I just have no idea what I am suppose to do. Posted by: Lorithad Try adding it by using: http://192.168.1.200:1631 Posted by: B-rock OK, it still isn't working, I amgoing to go bakc and check all of the other stuff to make sure it is right sometime tomorrow, hopefully, if not I will on thrusday. then i will get back to you. Posted by: Lorithad If it's still not working, unplug power from the US robotics router and wait 30 seconds. Plug it back in. This will (supposedly) clear any print documents in the router's que. After that, log into your us robotics router. It's address should be 192.168.1.200. Go to the device tab, and it should show you the "printer location". Hopefully you know how to re add your printer, as i'm not seeing any special instructions anywhere on the us robotics site, or within the manual for your print server. vBulletin Copyright ©2000 - 2003, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited.
