Speaker grill cloth question

Some speakers have fabric stretched over the grill and some don't. For those that do, does the fabric make a difference in the sound at all? If one was to take the fabric off would it ruin the speakers? Just wondering since sometimes the fabric gets torn.

if you take the fabric out, it shouldn't have any affect on performance.

no... only reason is there is to protect the cones from dust and from people touching them. Also for cosmetic purposes, but i like the look of a naked speaker... sexy!

Ok so technically a cloth grill over the front of your speakers will make a difference, but nothing you could notice with your ears easily , if that.

Personally i took the Cloth off my X-230's and after them my X-530's and after that my Z5500's, ofcourse the Z5500's are suposed to be removeable, the other two took a bit of Scissor work !, but i didnt notice any sound difference at all, No cloth is just so Sexy !
