What is the model of the router?

You will want to plug the host computers into the LAN ports on the router, and the broadband modem into the WAN port. Log into the computer, and make sure it is set to obtain IP Address automatically (DHCP). Get everything plugged in, and make sure you can get to the router's config page with an internet browser. Open the we browser, and type in the router's default IP address into the address bar. The default username/password combo should be located both in the router documentation, and on the router makers website.

The first thing to do is set up the WAN connection. Generally, a cable connection will need to be set as DHCP, and needs no username / password combo. Conversly, DSL accounts usually require a username / password to be able to connect to the service, and from my experience use PPPoE, or PPPoATM.

Once you hit this stage, you should be ready to surg, basic setup is complete.
