so i've picked out the parts that i want for building a comp, and would like some advice

processor: core 2 duo e6400 conroe 2.13 GHz ($221)

memory: corsair 2GB (2x1GB) 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM ($163)

gfx card: EVGA geforce 8800 GTS 640 MB ($360 after rebate)

mobo: ASUS P5B-E LGA 775 P965 ATX intel mobo ($151)

tower: lian li aluminum ATX case ($110)

power supply: thermaltake W0106RU 700W ($145 after rebate)

monitor: Hanns-G 19" widescreen ($180)

the links can be found on a wish list on newegg here

i was advised by a friend to take that particular power supply because i plan on overclocking my processor, and the gfx card is a beast in terms of wattage. if anyone can help me save a few $ here or there, that would be rather helpful.

Your wishlist isn't public, not able to see it.

Looks like it will be a decent build. You don't have a hard drive or optical drive listed, or keyboard & mouse.

and just as a sidenote i have CD drives and sound card that i am salvaging from my old computer. and just for the record this computer is for gaming.

sorry my bad its right here

First of all, you don't need that big of a Power supply.
Secondly, if you want to spend 140$ On one, then get this one as it is much better.

Everything else looks okish.

Posted by: whatsinaname

i was advised to get a big power suppply (and specifically that one) by a friend because i plan on overclocking, and the gfx card is a beast in terms of power.

Don't worry, you won't even use 500 Watts with that Build.

Stick to this list of brands if you dislike the enermax.
PC power and Cooling
Etasis
Zippy
Corsair
Seasonic
Silverstone
Fortron
OCZ
Antec
Enermax
Tagan
HIper (Type R)

Highly reccomend the Corsair HX620.

so a thumbs up on the build? at least except for the power supply.

after looking on newegg, the corsair one you proposed, and the one i chose have no difference in price.

Good luck with your build...

Psst... I recommend Seagate over Western Digital on hard drives... can't beat a 5 year warrenty. Seagate is #1 in industry for a reason.... I have YET to have a Seagate drive fail on me.

i don't particularly like the case (or its price tag) but hey, if you like it, so be it.

it was something a friend of mine (who has decently high computer knowledge) recommended. in fact, he was the one who put together the list for most of the hardware

And the Corsair is 5 times Better.

Don't even think of saying that the TT has more watts. Because it does, and it also doesn't matter.

Choose the corsair, it is one of the best Power supplies.

It is not logical to buy something that is less in quality for the same price.

But, its your money.

no need to take the "but it's your money" route. seems like you are the expert, and its the same price, so i'll go with the corsair

Thank you!!!!!

It just makes me cringe when someone buys a TT. Even though their toughPower series is ALOT better then previous Models. I can always point someone to a better brand and model. :)

'preciate the help. so it seems like this list is the final answer.

i just want to be 100% sure that what i am buying is what i want, so this is the last chance for anyone to speak up.

Looks good.

thats what i wanted to hear. all i gotta do now is punch in the CC #s and life is good.

Posted by: Ste

The only thing is, if you want to OC the proc alot you may want an Aftermarket Heatsink and some Artic Silver 5.

You don't have to buy it now, see how far you get with the stock one first.
Any of these are very good heatsinks.
Tuniq Tower
Sycthe Ninja
XP-120
XP-90
Zalman 9500
Zalamn 9700

Posted by: whatsinaname

how much do you think i can push out of that processor?

Posted by: Ste

2.7 to 3 Ghz on the stock Cooler. But it depends. It depends on the room temparture and how much case airflow you have. In general, people have been getting good overclocks with the stock cooler, but you can push the C2D's much further with an after market one. Such as the ones I suggested.

Posted by: whatsinaname

where the computer is going to be (my basement) is really really cold. i mean, my hands are basically frozen as i type this. however, i agree that it could be a good idea to get an aftermarket heatsink, but i want to see how it does on stock first. besides, if i can squeeze out 2.7-3.0 on stock, i can wait it out.

Get E6300 and OC it!!!

Maybe save some money and get a 8800GTX :D:D

Posted by: whatsinaname

i think i'll stick with what i got. i went down from the e6600 to the e6400 for the same reason. i am just going to overclock to get the same type of performance.

Posted by: whatsinaname

ok guys, i thought i'd treat you to some photos of my new system. the pictures are big, but what the hey, its worth it.
