well i have a fresh copy of windows xp sp2 on my self built computer and ive been trying to get on the internet. my ethernet controller is not installing properly i do not know why so i plugged in a wireless usb card and it installed properly and is detecting my router saying it has full signal to it. xp didnt have ie or anything installed on it so i put in a cd with firefox in and installed it. firefox opens but to a not found page i guess or whatever it is with firefox. i try to create a new connection and when i go thru all the steps and it says congrats to me and i click finish nothing shows up so i am unable to create a new connection for some reason can someone help me out here?

here are the specs to my computer if that helps

-dfi lan party ut nf4 ultra-d socket 939 nvidia nforce 4 ultra atx amd motherboard
-AMD Atholon 64 X2 4200+ Manchester 2.2GHz Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model

What IP address are you getting? If it is a 169.x.x.x IP address then you are not truly connected to your router & will need to troubleshoot that. If you are getting an IP address assigned to you from the router, i.e. 192.x.x.x then you may have a software issue on the PC preventing you from connecting. I always start troubleshooting those problems by disabling any firewalls. If you would like to check these things & update the thread I can provide further troubleshooting if need be.

well i actually got it to show the network connections like 1394 connection, local area connection and wireless network connection in the network connections in control panel just now its not connecting either by directly plugging it into the modem or wireless it says acquiring ip address but it never does and my other computers running off the same wireless router are working fine so its not the routers. i fixed it by doing this

so what can i do to officiallly make it connect
