So I have a few questions. 1.) Are there any disadvantages to booting off of an external HDD? 2.) Are there any specific external hdds that I cannot use on Linux? I thought that there were problems with USB devices in Linux. 3.) Will I be able to install Ubuntu normally and just choose the external hard drive to install on? Posted by: jakec Floyd, 1) it is slower than on a conventional HDD to do anything 2) No not to my knowlege at least 3) yes Jake Posted by: Greg Not all mobos let you boot from USB though, right? Posted by: macdude425 Most new ones will let you - it's the one more than 4 or 5 years old that you run into trouble with. vBulletin Copyright ©2000 - 2003, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited.
