Race this weekend.(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)Posted by: thebleakness 120miles of pure desert awesomeness. It's called the U.S. Laughlin Hare Scrambles in...well, Laughlin Nevada. www.bitd.com I'm teaming up with a friend and we're racing her (yes, her) Gas Gas EC 200 The race is set up in an 8 (eight) pattern. The pits is in the cross and the 2 loops are individual. This race is normally done in pairs so that 1 racer will do the upper loop while the 2nd racer does the bottom loop. Each racer races their respective loop (takes about an hour and is about 20 miles long) and when they come back to the cross they hand off the bike to the next racer for them to complete the other loop (another 20 miles). In total each team has too complete each loop 3 times, for a total of 3 laps around the course. So 60 miles per person x 2 = 120 miles in roughly 6 hours. Most of it's single track racing where the rider is barely going to go over 20 mph. I have yet to rider her bike (although I've had many chances) so racing it for the first time should be interesting. Here's a video of Destry Abbott (factory Kawasaki racer) battling Ty Davis for 1st place finish 1-2 years ago. http://www.destryabbott.com/crash.mpeg I'll see what photos I can get a hold of, the Flagboyz are going out in force. The group were going with has about 25 racers and we've even go our own pit crew. 1 continuous party for most of Friday, all of Saturday and most of Sunday should be a blast. I cant wait! Posted by: hillbillybob rock on buddy - good luck and be safe Posted by: thebleakness Oh yeah, I've been trying to get ready. There is so much stuff I've got to pack up and haul with me. It's going to be very expensive $$$, not something I'm looking forward to paying but I guess that's what fun costs now a days? I was looking at last years results, it took most teams close to 7 hours to complete it. Tis shall be interesting... Posted by: hillbillybob Get some pics, especially of the hot chicks that are always there. I swear two wheels and a small engine is an aphrodisiac for most women. It always worked for me when I had a bike. Posted by: j369852147412 good luck and dont hurt yourself man. Posted by: Shumway Ooh more pain for you :D You should come up to canada and try a numb bum,24 hour's of ice racing,Each team usually has 6 member's and split's the time up,It's just an oval track but it' pretty hard and cold ;) Posted by: Evergreen Man, I'd love to do something like that.. have fun Posted by: motoxer4533 haha the Gas Gas. They are really starting to get onto the market now, I see them advertised in Racer X and Cycle News all the time. Good luck, have fun, and go fast! Posted by: thebleakness I'm going to remember the various pro's numbers before the race so that I can watch them pass/lap me. :p Hopefully I get the same loop as Destry Abbott, I want to say that I raced the famous Dusty Rabbit...and lost! haha :D :p I'm really looking forward to this whole thing, I'm going to die but I'll love every minute of it. @Shumway: That sounds insane. Where I live the ground is covered in ice and snow all of winter and I've gotten alot of riding in this crap. It's hard as *heck*, I cant imagine what 24hours of the stuff would be like. Have you ever watched any footage of the Erzberg Enduro or Last Man Standing? Those are some intense races. Posted by: thebleakness First off...the race was AMAZING! Over 30 pros came out to try for it, some of the bigger pros such as Ricky Deitrich, Steve Hengeveld and Nathan Woods didnt come because they broke various body parts the week before. Others like Destry Abbott, Kurt Caselli, the Pearson Bros and others were there. Having that many pros really pushed them to try their hardest. And try they did, the Pearsons won in 4 hours 23 minutes only because Destry Abbott crashed within 10 miles of the finish and tore himself up. After a few minutes of gathering himself together Destry finished the race and came in 2nd place by 7 seconds! Supposedly when he came up to the podium at the finish line blood was pouring out of his mouth due to his crash. The guys nuts... Due to the speed these guys finished in many werent able to complete all 3 laps due to houring out, us included. I had problems with the ignition on my bike and lost a few minutes on the first lap and had that not happened we would have finished all 3 laps, its extremely frustrating. We still ended up 9th in our class, still top 10. :D :D Some pics of myself: That bike is amazing, I'm contemplating buying it when she sells it. I got spoiled being able to ride that. The power of a KTM with the suspension and handling of a Jap bike, truly amazing. I had a blast and cant wait for next year. Posted by: Evergreen Houring out is possibly the worst feeling ever man.. that sucks. I can't stand when I have something shitty during an enduro and drop 10 minutes for that ****. IE. last year this race had a restart into a motox like track for about 5 miles, my row came up, and luckily, I fouled my plug right when my row was leaving. Fun. But I'd love to ride that, looks like a ****ing blast. Oh, and way to sport the Gaernes, I own the exact same pair Posted by: thebleakness
Originally posted by Evergreen But I'd love to ride that, looks like a ****ing blast. Oh, and way to sport the Gaernes, I own the exact same pair
Right on, only the best huh? :D Those things are amazing. They've saved my foot from serious injury so many times. It was either those SG-10s or the Sidi Crossfires. Both are awesome and well worth the money. I thought that I might have seized the engine when it shut off because it just stopped. I was so scared when that happened because it wasn't my bike and on the first lap. Fouling plugs has happened to me before too, the second you give it gas for the holeshot it just stops. I had never ridden that bike before. I rode it around the pits in first gear a little bit a few minutes before my row was called but that was it. The first section for the holeshot racers went through a marked zig-zag course with a couple hundred people standing and watching. That was not the place I wanted to crash. lmao I lost the holeshot from my row but that was fine by me, I just wanted to get out of that place as soon as possible without falling. Posted by: Evergreen I usually never try for the holeshot unless the first check is a test section, then I'm balls to the wall Posted by: LoTeX Looks sweet. So you were totally satisfied with the power and torque of a 200cc engine? Do you happen to know how it works in muddy conditions? Posted by: thebleakness I don't know how it performs in muddy conditions but over all I was very impressed with it. It's like most other 200s, it wants are really needs to be ridden fast and at high RPMs, they aren't the bike for someone who wants to lug it around. It doesnt need to be ridden quite as aggresive as a KTM 200 but it's similar. The ec200 engine puts out nice smooth power from bottom to top. It's definatly got a hit when the powervalve opens up and thats kind of fun. My reasoning (all though strange) is that if I can become better on a 200 and really ride it in the powerband like it should be I would become a better rider whereas if I bought a 250 I could be slightly lazier. Then when the 200s power isnt enough I'll move up to a 250 and *hopefully* be faster. I dunno though... Anything at this point is better than my current bike, a 2002 Kawasaki KDX220. It's got awesome tractor like low end power but even with an FMF Gnarly Rev pipe it's lacking up top. Although the pipe did wonders it's got nothing on the snappiness of the 200. Posted by: LoTeX I've ridden (2-strokes) of 125, 250, 350 and an old 500 (just tried it quickly...on snow:)), but never had a chance to try a 200cc, so thanks for the report. Power hits sure are fun, but smooth power can actually be faster, depending on the track, of course. I think there's nothing wrong with your logic. Many people say you should first master the 125cc and then go to bigger bikes. Cause riding fast with high revving, rather low torque bike demands a lot from the rider. You can't just fix your mistakes by giving it more gas and it's easy to be lazy with something like 400cc 4-stroke and still be somewhat fast. vBulletin Copyright ©2000 - 2003, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited.
