When i try and start up BF2 and Rome Total War the initial small screen that comes up with the dektop in the background starts and then closes, the games will not start. This has only been happening recently, both the games worked a week ago. However i have noticed that when both of these games start an application starts names ''~e5.0001'' start, all my other games launch because this app doesnt launch with them. Ive herd that this is a 'dump' file used by EA (Although RTW isnt even made by EA) for game slike BF2 to use upon inital load. and then they close when the game is running. However my games dont even get this far now :(. Ive herd it has compatibility issues with certain firewalls and turned these off but both games still fail to start. Does anyone know what to do ? Posted by: Trotter You've got something running in the background thatis eating up resources. Start killing processes. Folding@Home doesn't play well with BF2... even if you have it set to lowest priority. Posted by: jonny_uk i always have ~e5 in my processes when playing Battlefield 2142, i know that doesnt answer your question but hey! Posted by: Trotter The "~e5xxxxx" file is like the game engine. Kill it, and you kill the game. Posted by: K M A N O ok, ive closed all background programs and dont do folding at home simply because i dont no what it is :). Ive left my pc for 15mins came back and the ~e5.0001 was still running along with the bf2.exe, however i was still at my desktop :(. Posted by: yosa For the moment just do a system restore, to a point before the problem occurred, close the relevent processes before starting a new game or you wont be able to. Posted by: K M A N Ive installed loads since they were working properly... proberly around 16Gb of downloads alone :(, system restore is unfortunately, for now, out of the question :p. Posted by: yosa I am pretty bad at deducing a problem this way, sorry, when you uninstall your BF2 and Rome, remove the the relevant registry entries as well, you should backup the entreis first(right click the group, export to, any folder you feel is safe). My reasoning is that the game may activate, than get an error. Posted by: K M A N Ok thanks, i may try that. vBulletin Copyright ©2000 - 2003, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited.
