basically my mobo doesn't detect anything when i plug in my cable to optical out

analogue works fine.

i use gigabyte p965-s3

my speakers are telling me "no digital data" meaning there's nothing on the other end.

i have latest drivers installed etc.

the closest thing i can find in BIOS is in integrated peripherals > Azalia Codec and that's set as auto (the other option being disabled)

any suggestions?

did you install any software for it from the motherboard cd?
