My friend has a very similar setup to mine, except he has ddr2 667 and a DS3 revision 2, while mine is revision 1. I understand quite a bit about overclocking and even set everything as he has set in his BIOS (I have the F10 BIOS btw) and it wont go. I've gone through and changed all the settings multiple times (at least 50 restarts with no success). My system is fine in every way, nothing is shorted on the motherboard, everything works just great, ran memtest overnight. the fker just wont overclock and it's ****ing me off so much! Can anyone offer some advice? Posted by: King X13 let me guess you boot and it tells you a boot disk failure even on a 5mhz overclock? if it is i know the issue your talking about. Posted by: KingAustin No, I dont get a boot disk failure, either I dont get a POST or it will start POSTing and then restart. Posted by: reggie_da_man Check the temps and run memtest86 to check if your ram isn't screwed up. Posted by: KingAustin I've ran memtest plenty of times, and temps surely arent an issue since it wont even boot if I bump it up 1 mhz. Posted by: b0dge Could this be the first non-overclocking C2D? It would be worth loads... Actually, on second thoughts.... Posted by: KingAustin Does anyone else have any suggestions? Posted by: Evergreen try turning off the feature on the board that auto restarts/clears cmos Posted by: RalliArt882 I got the same crap with my e6600 one day. I took someone elses numbers and used those to hopefully get 3Ghz on my DS3 965p and e6600. Restarted 10 times in a row, couldnt get to BIOS, then I gave up on it. Cleared cmos, no harm done. I have no idea what the **** is wrong. Posted by: leje0306 Having the same problem with my 6300. Got it up to like 2.1 Ghz and done, won't even post. Had to clear CMOS to get it goin again. Posted by: KingAustin Ok, I've got it overclocked now. I used Easy Tune (the motherboard utility for gigabyte boards). I normally wouldn't, but since it didnt want to OC for me in BIOS, that was my last option. Originally I couldn't use it because it doesn't work with vista, but I set the option for it to run in XP compatibility and it works. Posted by: TheMajor How much did you overclock? Posted by: KingAustin Currently I have it running stable at 2.275, it doesn't like going past 2.3, so I'll start messing with the vcore tomorrow. I'm on stock cooling, but my temps have only hit 49 while running ORTHOS, so I'm not very worried about the temps just yet :) Posted by: TheMajor The Vcore might help. I hope my E6300 gets up to 2.5Ghz at least, whenever I get it. Ordered it together with an Asus P5W DH Deluxe. I'm not gonna overclock straight out of the box though. Posted by: KingAustin
Originally posted by TheMajor The Vcore might help. I've owned mine since early September, and all my friends with C2D's have theirs OCed and load a lot quicker than me in company of heroes, so I decided it was time to find some way to OC this ******* :-p Posted by: mesa
Originally posted by KingAustin Currently I have it running stable at 2.275, it doesn't like going past 2.3, so I'll start messing with the vcore tomorrow. I have that same cpu and mobo as you do. when i OC'd to 2.3 i had 30c temps. Zalman 9500. Posted by: KingAustin I understand this. My friends all have e6300's or 6600's with the 9500, but right now the e6300 at stock speeds does just fine, so I probably wont be buying a 9500 since my temps are still under control at the current speed. Also I'm not sure if it will fit in my current case. Posted by: RalliArt882 As long as you have a mid-tower, you should be fine. I have a NZXT Apollo and a Zalman9500 fits with ease on my ds3. I know I could get a 9700 on there no problem too. Posted by: KingAustin well I have this case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811103004 (black color scheme) and so I'm not 100% sure, I guess I could measure, but it really isn't a big deal to me right now. Until my C2D starts to suffer, slight OCing will be sufficient :) Posted by: mesa
Originally posted by KingAustin Currently I have it running stable at 2.275, it doesn't like going past 2.3, so I'll start messing with the vcore tomorrow. The easy mode will only take you to about 320 fsb. If you go into your Advance mode you set your CPU FSB to much higher rate. 429 fsb = 3.0 Mhz. And you not worried about temps? 50c? @ 2.2 ghz? ummm i would be you go any higher you will hit 60c very quick and thats not good. a $45 part will save you 20c, also get arctic silver 5 thermal compound.
I'm using advanced mode and I know quite a bit about computers, I recently switched from computer engineering to the IT field because I suck at math. Anyway, no, I'm not even close to being worried about 49º at 2.275. Even if it maxed at 60 it wouldn't bother me that much. Chips can handle 60º, now if it was 70º we would have a problem. And I have AS5 applied already, also on my north bridge since they do a crappy job with that. Oh btw read my settings below...ive done what you are trying to do with the same mobo and chip. Good luck. Posted by: Evergreen I honestly wouldn't be worried about an aftermarket cooler until past 3.1ghz+ (That's my threshold for having to increase CPU Voltages) Posted by: KingAustin
Originally posted by mesa just trying to help :/ ...... since you are so smart ill let you figure it out. I know how to OC too, but for some reason it just doesn't want to do it in the BIOS. It might have something to do with being in one of the first batches of DS3's made. I helped my friend get the same setup as ours running at 2.9 Posted by: nagasama i didnt drop 20c with as5. more like 8-10. maybe its just me, tho. Posted by: Evergreen This is what i'm currently running at. http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/9451/yestheyrereadingas7.png Unsure as to why you're skeptical. Posted by: leje0306 How the F*&($? I had to do a volt mod to go beyond 2.33 GHz on my 6300(of course I don't really know what I'm doin:-)). What are your temps?
no kiddin... 450-ish mhz? that seems to be way below the average for the c2d...but whatever. i have been reading a lot of posts here on the forums about people having trouble ocing them. so, i dunno...but it seems to me that the "i dont really know what im doing" would be much more likely the problem versus faulty equipment. With the C2D's known overclockabilities, it surprised me that I couldn't get mine past 2.7ghz stable. I tried 3.0ghz and I had to reset CMOS as well to get picture again on the screen. But I left the vcore untouched at ~1.31V, that's probably the problem. I didn't think I needed to up the voltage, but again, that's probably because I have no OC experience at all and didn't want to mess with it. I'm tempted to play with the vcore a little but I thought I better hold off until I get some feedback from the forums. But then again......
Originally posted by Evergreen I honestly wouldn't be worried about an aftermarket cooler until past 3.1ghz+ (That's my threshold for having to increase CPU Voltages)
I'm also on stock cooling, and it's running at 30C at 2.4ghz. vBulletin Copyright ©2000 - 2003, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited.
