Disappointed with XBOX 360

When the first Xbox came out I bought it. I turned so many people away from their PS2 and got them to buy the Xbox because I told and show them how better the Xbox was compare to it. When I found out that the Xbox 360 was coming out, I couldn't wait to get a hold on one of them. I finally did about 4 months later but I would say the wait was worth while. I was so happy with this console until 8 months later the console went crazy. I called Tech. Support. and I ended up sending my console for repairs for free but it didn't get repaired it got replaced with another one. I got my console I connected my hard drive, which I was told to not send for repair, and I was ready to play again.

Here is where my disappointment started. I was unaware that all the downloads that I had purchased from Xbox Live weren't going to work because the Hard Drive and the original console are synchronize for security reasons so if the Hard Drive doesn't recognize the consoles serial number it won't let you play the downloaded content even if it is in the Hard Drive. I've spent more than $40 on content and now it's down the drain. I can erase the content, log in on Xbox Live, and re-download everything again for free since I paid for it; but I can't play it because the Hard Drive doesn't recognize the new console's serial number.

I call tech support which after 6 calls somebody explained the hard drive and console situation. I was told that they were going to refund my points/(money I spent) back but I had to recreate a new "gamer tag" and re-download everything after I get my points back. They say it might take a week before I could get my points back but it's already past that week and when I call they(support) keep telling me that they will call me back when they are ready. I've been patiently waiting but while waiting I decided to download some free content to see if it works and I realize that it does work but there is a CATCH. You can't play any saved games because they were saved using the old "gamer tag" and since I have created a new one I have to start from the beginning on all my games. To some this is nothing but to me and everybody that has spent more than 100hrs playing "Elder Scrolls: Oblivion" it's a big deal because all the missions, and I do mean A LOT OF MISSIONS AND QUESTS, have to be restarted from creating the character and leveling up the character.

I know this is a long story but I had to get it out of my chest. I still like my Xbox 360 but am very disappointed for the way everything is turning out. I'm still waiting on my points and also their Tech. Support really SUCKS. Like I said, it took six calls before somebody explained to me what was wrong but the six call only because I've called more than 10 times already and the people can't relate to what I'm going through because they are just reading off a paper and have never touched an Xbox before, well it seems that way. Thanks for your time if you read this but I just wanted to warn everybody of some possibilities

I guess that your just extremly unlucky that your 360 went bust and you had to send it away and therfore have to deal with Tech.support!

good thing I can still play it but not the downloaded content. And I'm still waiting for my refund. it's been 2 weeks already waiting for my refunded points

Well, here's what I don't understand. Why didn't you just go into the dash board, transfer namer tag, re-enter the info and have your gamer tag assigned to the new console s/n. You can do that and start the downloads again without having to wait, I think.

That was the first thing I tried. For some reason when you purchase download content, the content will sync with the console's s/n and hard drive. So even after doing what you told me to do, I went to redownload the content and it will download but the content was sync to the old console s/n and will always be for Microsoft security reasons. I purchased new content that same day and downloaded it with everything else that I had redownloaded but the only thing that I could play was the new content because it was the first time I had purchased it and it sync to the new console s/n and hard drive. Microsoft did all this for security reasons and now they don't know how to repair all those problems a lot of people are having. The only option that they have is to create a new gamer and they will refund your points back but it was suppose to be 3 to 5 business days and it's been 2 weeks already.

Hmmm... there should be a way to unlock that. I admit, thats something I'd never thought of problem wise. Dunno, something just sounds strange with that. The reason I'm saying this is that you can buy an after market HDD and it is not tied to the console s/n, so it seems that since you have the original HDD you should be able to pop it on and go. It would be just like buying another HDD from the store if you had, say, a basic 360 system. I'm starting to wonder if the person on the help line knew his stuff or not.

I understand Microsoft's security reasons, imagine I buy downloaded content. If there wasn't any HDD sync with console's s/n I could charge people to give me their HDD and redownload everything under my gamertag for free and now they have it on their HDD without paying the full price. That's why if I take my HDD to someone else's console I can't play the downloaded content unless I sign-in to xbox live using my gamertag. As soon as I log off, I can't play it anymore on that particular console. I know that Microsoft is working on some king of patch or something to fix that but there is no release date to when they are going to put it on xbox marketplace.

I called tech support again today to check the status on my case and the supervisor told me that it shouldn't be taking this long to get my points back. He said that usually withing 48 hrs they return your points and for me it's been 3 weeks. He said to call back on Friday to check status. He has to wait to receive some "codes" so that he can give me my points back. That sucks again.
