I have 4, 2.6ghz Dell Celerons in my office that run extremely slow. I'm talking over 5 minutes to reboot, 30 seconds to open a browser window, 5 seconds or more to just pull up the start menu slow. The machines were purchased at the same time as about 12 other similar Dells (others are 2.8ghz P4's) and they all run perfectly. It's these 4 Celerons that are driving me nuts. All 4 of them are similarly slow (though one is faster than the other 3, but it's still not right). Antivirus is up to date, spyware scans have been run and there's nothing that accounts for the slowness. I'm posting the log file below....I can't see anything amiss, but I wonder if there's something that's not there that should be? When I get a new system, especially a Dell, I uninstall everything that Dell puts on it and I think on these I even changed to a selective startup to try to kill all uneeded processes in hopes of speeding them up. I wonder if I killed something that was needed in my setup or attempts at fixing? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 5:23:19 PM, on 2/12/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgamsvr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgupsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\r_server.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\Core\smax4pnp.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgcc.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/mywaybiz R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://bfc.myway.com/search/de_srchlft.html R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.dell4me.com/mywaybiz R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/mywaybiz R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.dell4me.com/mywaybiz R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file) O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: DriveLetterAccess - {5CA3D70E-1895-11CF-8E15-001234567890} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswshx.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMAXPnP] C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\Core\smax4pnp.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dla] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSPM Startup] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\UPDATE~1\ISUSPM.exe -startup O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSScheduler] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe" -start O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVG7_CC] C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgcc.exe /STARTUP O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\npjpi142_03.dll O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\npjpi142_03.dll O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file) O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{076FFEA3-C6EB-4AF7-84F9-DB975A0E61C5}: NameServer = 205.152.37.23,205.152.144.23 O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{076FFEA3-C6EB-4AF7-84F9-DB975A0E61C5}: NameServer = 205.152.37.23,205.152.144.23 O20 - Winlogon Notify: igfxcui - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\igfxsrvc.dll O23 - Service: AVG7 Alert Manager Server (Avg7Alrt) - GRISOFT, s.r.o. - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgamsvr.exe O23 - Service: AVG7 Update Service (Avg7UpdSvc) - GRISOFT, s.r.o. - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgupsvc.exe O23 - Service: Remote Administrator Service (r_server) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\r_server.exe" /service (file missing) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ BTW, this is the log from the slowest of the 4.
