Hi people,

I am new to programming been learning for about 9 months, I have been learning Python and C#. I have read lots of info on the web and in books that say the best way to get better is to programming real life applications and not learn from just code snippets. So I want to get involved with some Open Source projects? How do I go about getting involved in some Open Source things? What would be my first step?

ohhh....most open source projects require a programmer with some experience. For no experience coding real life apps, I would suggest Rent A Coder.com You would get paid for your work, and you could pick which ones you wanted to do.

Just a word of Note - How did you learn C#, was it on windows with .NET and Visual Studio? A lot of open source is done on linux, and C# on Linux is done with Mono.

I started by learning C#, this was not windows specific. Then when I understood all the basics I started to learn .NET using Visual Studio. I do use linux as my primary OS so I started to learn with Mono C# from the very beginning. After I mastered the basics in C# I started to learn Python. Because I already new the programming fundemental learning the basics in Python took me only a weekend(which was cool).

So now I have learnt a couple of programming languages useable degree, I was wanting to get some good experience, and from what I figured Open Source was gunna be my best bet. But you think Rent A Coder.com would be more useful for me do you? When would getting into Open Source be an option for me?

P.s Thanks for that advice though.(Rent A Coder.com, im signed up already).
