KDE or Gnome....

OK. I was backing up some of my files from my Windows XP to HD.. just in case.

I plan to install Linux once more. (About 2 month ago I have Kubuntu, and mess it up).

So.. before I have KDE.. But should I try Gnome?

Which KDE or Gnome have better supports? Which have more apps for them? etc......

And I still thinking to go with Kubuntu or Ununtu (KDE or Gnome).... But not sure...

What do you recommend?

It's a matter of personal preference. I love Gnome, and I absolutely HATE KDE. Others love KDE, hate Gnome.

Try them both.

I am a fan of GNOME (Fedora Core 6 is wonderful).

Definitely stay away from Fedora, sticking with a Debian based distro is a very good idea. Ubuntu is good, Kubuntu is the same thing just with KDE.

You might just try straigh Debian, as it is the best... :)

What about number of applications in Gnome? About the same like in KDE?

Posted by: The General

Yeah, about the same ... but you can run KDE apps in Gnome, and Gnome apps in KDE.

Buy KDE apps I mean QT, and by Gnome I mean GTK, but... yeah.

In my opinion people who are accustomed to using more GUI based OSs like using KDE. But kde consumes a lot of your pc resources and gnome is really light on your pc. also gnome is more stable than kde as i have experienced quite a few crashes in kde. i would recommend gnome in any case. but still each person has his own opinion so you should try your hand at both before you make up your own!! c ya!!

I have found this to be very untrue - especially on other architectures. The Debian Sarge release of GNOME for ppc-smp was so unstable and slow it was almost unbearable to me.

Plus, if you know how to whip out good, clean, custom kernels, KDE can run as fast, or faster than GNOME.

I think it's become obvious I prefer KDE.

****. those ******* are getting annoying.......

I personally prefer KDE because I think it looks sleeker. Gnome is lighter on your system though. If you want really light you might want to think about the Xfce Desktop environment. Xubuntu I believe uses it.

put me down for the neither category, fluxbox please

GNOME for me, I get all my eyecandy from Beryl.
