What do you think?

I dont want Blue-Ray to win ... fact is its PS3 so within 1 year 10 million people will be holdin Blu-Ray players. I dont no how HD-DVD is going to compete with that.

Thanks

I would think HDDVD will win although i prefer Blue-rays abilty to store much more information. If we can learn from sony's history what happened to betamax and minidisk? Seeming as microsoft uses the HDDVD as an add-on to it's consoles i think they will probaly muscle their way to success. The name also will give it the edge people feel that it is like a DVD but with much better definition and size so therefore will be the best. Apparently people are devolping a way to store around 350 gbs on paper using a series of colours and shapes and what about thoose seagate 300 terabyte drives that are said to be released in a few years?

Blu-ray should win but in a couple of years there are going to be players which can handle both formats so wont matter. http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/05/lgs-super-multi-blue-ggw-h10n-a-blu-ray-writer-and-hd-dvd-r/

if im not mistaken, blueray plays dvd's in 1080p, hddvd plays 720p... higer resolution=BETTER DUH

Umm... the mass market for these drives probaly doesn't know what a gigabyte is and will go with the established name "DVD". So it is likely they will buy a HDDVD player because the name includes "DVD" and because it is cheaper, they probaly won't even know that a blu-ray disk can hold 50 GB on one layer.

blu-ray holds 25gb per layer but prototypr 8 layer BDare being tested, imo blu-ray will win since im a fanboy and its got more corportate backup. i know many people who think more exepensive=better so BD FTW, and don't come in here with tha BD access time bull we don't wanna hear it

Um... what?

Posted by: TheEnd187

was referring to everyone saying reading blu-ray at 1x is too slow, **** i just posted what i didn't want to hear. hd dvd still reads at 1x ayways so it doesnt really matter

Blu-ray has too much drm protection, and the porn industry is on HD-DVD's side. weather you watch porn or not you have to admit it makes a big impact on this kind of thing. Also as much as i hate to admit it, nobody is buying PS3s. to me it looks like M$ and its HD-DVD/Xbox technology are beating out Sony's PS3/Blu-ray. Sony has made some really stupid decisions on blu-ray so its really their fault. they had a winner in blu-ray but to me it seems the war is already over. Besides isnt it nice to see an American company with American technology back on top? I used to be a Sony fan, but now that it comes to this i realize i feel better about people over here making the world standard for video medium and not the Japanese.

I stick with japanese seeing as they use the same sector setting for the uk and japan no idea why but when the psp came out in japan I got the ultimate special edition for japan and it still has the same area code for uk so i can buy all my UMD's here with no compatibility issues but i bought some off ebay and they turned out to be american copies and so didnt work :@ sold them on ebay.com for a profit though.

Um... HD DVD does in fact play at 1080p

I like my DVD. It took me 5 years to get to DVD to start with...Bought a DVD player in 2003 for $200, now it's just a POS.

I think blu-ray was too rushed. No good.

I don't think either will be the next big thing. All digital baby!
Sony is touting figures from Nielsen VideoScan that suggest Blu-ray movie sales are quickly outpacing HD DVD movie sales. As Joystiq reports, the figures claim that two to three times as many Blu-ray movies were sold as HD DVD titles in the first two weeks of January. In the first week, only 47.14 HD DVD titles were sold for every 100 Blu-ray titles, and in the second week the proportion of HD DVD sales shifted down to 38.36. These figures suggest that Sony's gamble of using the PlayStation 3 as a means to push Blu-ray has paid off. That said, more HD DVD titles have been sold since the format's inception. As of the second week of January, the Nielsen VideoScan figures say for every 100 HD DVD titles sold so far, only 92.40 Blu-ray movies have been bought.
