Monitor for Hi Def?

Currently I have a standard TV in my room which I play the 360 on .. personally, I think it looks very blurry and takes away from a lot of what the 360 has to offer.

So, I was wondering if I could hook it up to my Dell monitor. I have one which looks much like this one > http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=hied&cs=RC956904&sku=1707VY3

(not sure the exact make).

So .. I was wondering about doing that, or would I be better off getting a different LCD monitor? I would rather not spend the extra money, as it would cost a lot. But a lot of people say to check this one out > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824014105

Would there be much difference between the two?

thanks.

The BenQ will work fine.

I have that exact BenQ, and I plan on getting the VGA adapter some time soon. If you want, you can wait and I'll post back on how the quality is. :)

Well .. My point is, if I already have an LCD monitor, would it really be neccessary for me to still get the BenQ?

I mean, how much of a difference would there be? I plan on getting a VGA cable soon so I can try it on the Dell monitor (which I looked up, and it roughly costed 200-250 usd :O ). Perhaps I'll have to compare specs. ..

What is the resolution on your current monitor?

Posted by: Mentali$T

Most LCD monitors can display the correct resolutions for HD stuff so it should be fine for the 360. Test it on what you have and if u dont like it spend the money to get another monitor/tv

My res right now is 1280x1024

I, as well, would like to know if a LCD monitor with native res of 1280x1024 would take advantage of a 360's Hi Def video?

Xbox360 = at most 1920x1080, some games only up to 1280x720
Monitor in question = 1280x1024

Remember:

1080p = 1920x1080 progressive
1080i = 1920x1080 interlaced
720p = 1280x720 progressive
720i = 1280x720 interlaced
480p = 720x480 progressive
480i = 720x480 interlaced

Be sure to go for a widescreen aspect monitor, others you may end up with big black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.

I plugged my Xbox360 into my regular non-HD television and I don't get black bars for anything but widescreen videos. What are you talking about?

Posted by: nicotine

Hmm... so you think I should not use the dell, and go with something else?

Even with that BenQ, you wont be able to view on either 1080i or 1080p, right..? So both would be able to view it on 720p... right..? I don't really know this stuff, just trying to help :|

When plugged into the BenQ I get a list with VGA modes like 1680x1050 so yeah it works fine.

I'm talking about connection via VGA to PC Monitors with a 4:3 ratio, my friend did that and he had black bars :(

I know. Your friend needs to go to System -> Console Setup -> Display and change it. I don't have a computer monitor with a 4:3 aspect ratio anymore, so I can't test it. But based on the fact that I dont have black bars on my 4:3 TV I'm 99.9% sure that it's just a setup problem.
