I have had my xbox 360 for about a month, today I started a game and I heard a little noise come from the disc drive now it makes a scratching noise and will not read disc.

Is it totally dead and should I take back to shop to get it replaced?

Take it back to the shop and tell them to replace it.That's the best thing to do!

The even better part is because it's not a Wii or PS3, you will be able to get a replacement right away!

Did you move your xbox while it was running with a game inside?

Posted by: Raze664

Nope. Got it changed.

Just make sure you dont move your console when a Disc is spinning this can Scratch the Layer on the disc and can damage your console and also your game disc

I guessed by the little thing across the drive saying. WARNING DONT MOVE WHILST DISK IS IN DRIVE.

Tell me did you have it plugged in the wall or into a power strip?

Does that matter?

Posted by: MichiyoYoshiku

Yes it does

A power strip will protect the equipment from a power surge, possibly damaging the equipment.

No it won't. A surge protector will, though. And some surge protectors come in the form of a power strip.

I thought you were gonna say the opposite. I've heard people say that using a power strip with the 360 was a bad idea........not sure why.

It was in a surge protection, same one as my pc and TV...they are both fine.

The Powerbrick is also a surge protector so plugging into another one would overload it.

I got the 3 red rings 15 mins after owning my 360 because it was plugged into a protector.

but from the sound of the poster is sounds like a drive issue but just to see if it helps plug it into a wall rather than a power strip and see what happens the 360 Manual does advise you to plug it into the wall.
