Ad hoc on win 2000?

Just wondering if it is possible tos et up ad hoc on win 2000?
I think it is, because my wireless usb adapter gives me the option but it seems to nly be to connect, not transmit.
Is this even possibly with win 2000?
It's a X-Micro WLAN mini USB Adapter and they have their own little software thingy...
I emailed their support, but they haven't answered :(

I've seen that guide, but it's for win xp and not win 2000. I want the win2000 machine to be the host of the ad hoc network.

That guide is using XP's zero Wireless configuration. 2000 does not have that. Your answer lies in the manufacturers software and drivers for each card. They WILL give you the option for Ad hoc or Infrastructure.

dedub, that's the thing, I have the option between infrastructure and ad hoc but it seems to me like I can't set win 2000 to be host, only to be client as far as I can tell. Their support team is really slow. The first reply back was "read this and that" and of course all of it was useless, then the next one ask for a further description (my initial email said I wanted to set up the win 2000 pc as the host of the ad hoc) and yet I wrote a lot detailing what exactly I want to do and asking if it was possible with their software...

MJ, I think you are a little confused. There is no such thing as host on an adhoc network. It's purely peer to peer. The only exception is if your doing ICS and setting a computer that has internet access on another adapter like a lan card and sharing it through its wireless connection using adhoc.

Does that make sense or did I confuse you more?

No dedub, that's exactly what I want. I guess I wasn't being clear about that. Sorry.

Basically setting up the win 2000 which is connected via ethernet to the internet and then setting ad hoc up so my laptop can access it wirelessly.

It's been years since I have done it in 2000. I had to drop a few years of childhood memories to learn it in XP :)

BTW, I googled *ICS in windows 2000* and that was the first link along with tons of others. I think that should get you strait.

One problem: I do not have the "share" tab. Whci is strange, then I check services, set ICS to automatic, but to no avail. After a reboot I still do not have the tab, are there other services I need to set to automatic that might have been disabled?

That's the manual for your wireless thing. I am seeing a section in it to set up an ad hoc network using their software.

Thanks, but that isn't the problem. I can set up the ad hoc, but I cannot set up ICS because I do not have the sharing tab. That's the problem now.
