New cellphone, new contract?

I was just wondering...

Is it worth it to get a new cellphone, like a RAZR, with a new three-year contract, or use my parents existing phone they gave me, with a 2-year contract remaining?

The phone is nothing special, just a Samsung SCH-A650, basic phone, good quality screen.

Will the cellphone provider charge me for a new contract when the cellphone contract is up? Or will they just continue charging $30 per month like normal?

I think when your contract is over and if you continue to use the service they will keep charging you the same every month, but since your contract ended, whatever down payment you put in, you can get it back and cancel your service with them.

IMO, why do you need a new RAZR? Is it the appeal of the phone and features you want? Then go ahead and grap one if the price is right and the service is good, otherwise just stick with your parents phone if you're just looking to call people.

All I'm looking for in a phone is something that can send and receieve text and picture messages, surf the internet, and talk.

I want the RAZR, or an equivalent, because I like the idea of a camera on the cellphone. How often do people actually carry about their digital camera?

Thanks for the info, I think it's worth it to keep the phone and have the option to cancel with the provider instead of being locked in a contract.

I think I'll just use this phone without a contract, and later I might switch providers and try a new phone for whatever cost.
