I have a list of a system but i need help tweaking it and suggestions. I want the best possible system for hardcore gaming. I have a Keyboard, mouse, mousepad, soundcard, headphones. Things im looking for: I dont know how to overclock that much but i want to beable to b/c i plan on it by using the forums here. I need very good detail such as in my list i show im getting the Artic Silver 5 and a CPU Cooling fan. Well heres my List(Newegg items): APEVIA X-Navigator - Good case someone suggested to me ASUS P5B Deluxe Motherboard - This is another issue im having. I heard its a really good motherboard but i see other motherboards around the same price or maybe a little more and i dont know if this is the best i can get for my budget or if there is another one around the same price that is a lot better. Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - Best bang for the buck and good overclocking? GeForce 8800GTX - Directx10 card and the ability to play anything at MAX settings. G.SKILL 2GB DDR2 800 - I dont know anything about timings but i think someone suggested this memory to me. ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 - Heard this was a really good CPU cooler for Overclocking. Is it? Artic Silver 5 Western Digital 250GB SATA HD 500W PSU - I dont know if a 500W PSU is good enough so any suggestions will be good. Monitors: Someone told me TFT monitors are bad for gaming and accually CRT monitors are way better. I dont know whats true if so id love to see a really good CRT but if theres a better LCD id perfer that. Sick of the heavyness. Also I heard Widescreen monitors are better for gaming. 19" Non widescreen 2ms - I picked this one b/c of the insane 2ms this was before people said widescreen was better. 19" Widescreen 5ms - Found this LCD looks cheap looks pretty good. Only concern i have is about the Display Type on Monitors, should i get a digital type idk I dont know how to tell a good monitor from another. Basically this is my list but I need help with it. Like if someone could help me out with my monitor issue that would be helpful. I plan on playing games like Oblivion, Battlefield 2148 or w/e its called ><, BF: 2, WoW, F.E.A.R., games like that. Please look over the items if you have something better or can help me out with my issues and stuff id greatly appreciate it. even if its not an issue like the case or HD and you think something is better let me know Ill take all the tips i can get. To answer the questions you have for jumping bean, that CPU cooler is a really good one and would be a very good choice if you're going to overclock. It's nicer having more than one harddrive, whether it be for RAID 0, 1, or just extra space. Also if you have the money, buy the 8800GTX, if you dont, get the 8800GTS, you'll be more than happy with either one. Posted by: lancec2c30 I think you should stick with your build. That 8800gtx will be amazing. Either way that computer will eat up every game out. edit: i had a dvd burner drive that i just bought like 1 month ago so im using that. Posted by: Jumping_Bean514 Thats allmost exactly the same thing I posted except a diff power supply, no monitor, no dvd drive and no after market CPU cooler and my build was only 100$ more. Posted by: Fayt19 Nice i like that Thermaltake case it looks like it would be very good air flow, has 4 fans. for Raid 0 is there anything special i need? like a cord or something? I like that CPU cooler I think ill get that instead. Other questions: is that memory better then the one i picked out? its like 70 more dollars you think the gts will really be good enough for now instead of the GTX? Because I dont want to have to update for awhile. Posted by: reckliss the Sceptre I suggested is much more future proof and has better specs then the CHIMEI. The Sceptre has 1200:1 instead of 800:1 the sceptre has HDCP and a HDMI and the Chimei doesnt have either of those. I own the sceptre and it is very versatile.
lmao, 1200:1 compared to 800:1 isn't big of a differece. HDCP is dumb IMO and I dont see HDMI getting used very much by most. I would highly suggest the 22" if you feel like getting more space. Posted by: reckliss The Sceptre is 22" so it beats it. Posted by: Jumping_Bean514 over priced IMO Posted by: reckliss The sceptre after the rebate is $26 short of being the cheapest 22". Posted by: Fayt19 Yeah 22" is nice but it cant reach 1600x1200 = \. Also can anyone help me out on what i said on page one? Edit: Anyone know if 20.1" or 22" monitor is even good? 1680x1050 or w/e it is, is a weird res. Would it go well with gaming? Im kinda looking towards a 19" monitor I dont know if widescreen is worth it, anyone know? If you dont have a good video card, then get the 19" or your gaming experience wont be as much fun. If you have at least a 7900GT, I would get the 22". 1680x1050 is a good resolution for gaming, especially on a 22". I've only had it for a little bit and only played Call of Duty 2, but I assume all new games would have this resolution. Posted by: KingAustin
Originally posted by reckliss The sceptre after the rebate is $26 short of being the cheapest 22".
$40 once you throw in shipping. $60 if you dont get the mail in rebate. Posted by: lancec2c30 o just go get a dam 30 in. widescreen and end this argument. lol Posted by: Fayt19 Updated list: Thermaltake Case - $154.99 - This case looks like a keeper, lots of space, and 4 fans for good cooling for when i overclock my system. EVGA Motherboard - $249.99 - a couple of you guys suggested this Motherboard. I still dont understand what makes it very good. it only have 2 pci slots idk if that is enough but i dont think i would use that for anything but a soundcard right? 3 pci x16 slots which is nice if i ever want to sli and get a physics card. I also heard this motherboard was good at overclocking. Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - $309.99 - The E6600 seems to be the cheapest best chip i can get as the 6700 is like 100-200 more dollars i think. Plus this chip is good at overclocking too. Corsair XMS2 2GB DDR2 800 - $267.00 ($227 after $40 rebate) - Some guys told me to get this memory. Seems like a good deal if the 40 mail in rebate stays there till Jan. Other then that it seems a little expensive for being 5-5-5-5-12 timing and cas 5. Is Corsair really good memory or something? I had G.Skill memory with 4-4-4-4-12 timings or something with cas 4 for only $230. maybe G.skill sucks or something? GeForce 8800GTX - $629.99 - I love this card. Looks too good to give up. It's a directx10 card and should be a very good card for a long time. Some people said i should get the 8800gts for about $200 or so less. Sounds good but I cant seem to find a site where they compare the two cards so I could see the loss I would be taking in. 2x Western Digital 250GB - $149.98 - 2x of these for Raid 0. Only question I have here is if you guys think i should maybe just get a 74GB Raptor at 10k RPM and maybe get another one later on for Raid 0? Or do you think it wouldnt make much of a difference and just stick to two of these? Samsung DVD Burner - $32.99 - Pretty cheap and has Lightscribe which seems cool, I dont know if Ill ever Burn anything on a CD but something to keep handy I guess. ZALMAN CNPS9500 - $42.99 - Heard it is the Best cooling device for the price which is good for me because like i said i plan on overclocking my computer. Artic Silver 5 - $5.99 - Thermal gel for the cpu for extra cooling. PSU - ??? - I still dont know what PSU to get some people suggested some 700w but I read some article on the forums that a 700w is over doing it. So I still need some more suggestions here. Monitors: 1) 22" 5ms Widescreen Chimei - $338.99 - This is one monitor i picked out because it looks like it got good reviews, looks like a good monitor and cheaper then the SCEPTRE. 2) 22" 5ms Widescreen SCEPTRE - $359.99(339.99 with $20 rebate) - People suggested this monitor looks good, more expensive until the mail in rebate comes in. 3) 22" 5ms Widescreen BENQ - $339.99 - Just another 22" montior that looks good. 4) 19" 5ms Widescreen ViewSonic - $189.99(169.99 with $20 rebate) - I still dont know if a 22" montior will be very good or not. I still play cs 1.6 so idk how that would work but i also plan on playing all the newer games too so maybe a 22" montior will be good but this is half the price so idk. What do you guys think? 5) 20.1" 5ms Widescreen SCEPTRE - $249.99 - This is a 20.1 ince montior with the same rez as the 22", looks like it has some good specs and looks pretty good. I really need help with this monitor issue. I dont know why 22" is really good and stuff. All and All Im buying all the parts in Jan when i file my taxes. But im getting the list together now so im all prepared. Getting a montior seems like its hard. I read about this backlight stuff and dead pixels. Im reading about ghosting and not high enough Refresh Rate. So anyways how does the list look? I need help getting a PSU and if its a 700w could someone let me know why? I also need help picking out a monitor. Thanks for reading this! Posted by: KingAustin Most people dont NEED a 22" monitor, it's just nicer to have. Just like your graphics card choice, you don't NEED the 8800GTX, you just want it. I just always enjoy having more landscape to work with since sometimes I do graphic design. I also have my xbox 360 hooked up to my monitor so it's a nice and large view. You don't have to worry about ghosting on any monitors 8ms and under, if you hear someone say that their monitor had some ghosting with a monitor with 8ms or under, they're either the pickiest mofo on the planet and/or just retarded. Dead pixels isn't nearly as big of a problem as it sounds like it is. If you do happen to get one, it will be small and most likely unnoticeable unless you stare right at it, plus there are ways to fix them. I haven't had one in the 3 LCD monitors I've had in my life and a few I've helped friends pick out. For a PSU, I would get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817371001 650W still might be a little overdoing it, but better safe than sorry since you're planning on getting the 8800GTX which uses a lot of power. Corsair is good memory, but there's nothing wrong with G.Skill, both are good companies. I'm using G.Skill RAM right now and I wouldn't have gotten it if it sucked :-p Everything else on your system looks like it's going to make you one happy dude. Posted by: Fayt19 thanks for the the help. you provided me with good details. I like that PSU, looks good. So you think the G.Skill memory is worth it to get then? You're good to go with either brand, they're both good, I would just get whichever is cheapest. Posted by: maroon1 MSI 8800GTX is the cheapest 8800GTX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127224 Posted by: lancec2c30 ya, but not the best. I would personally go with evga. They have the best reputation. Posted by: KingAustin I would also go with evga because of their step up program (even though you wont be stepping up for awhile most likely) Posted by: Fayt19 yeah i would never buy a videocard from anyone but EVGA or BFG Posted by: KingAustin
Originally posted by Fayt19 yeah i would never buy a videocard from anyone but EVGA or BFG
I would. There are other good brands out there. I'm pretty sure it's ok to buy from ATI, since, you know, they make half the cards :p Also the following would be safe choices: XFX, Gigabyte, Sapphire, ASUS, HIS, PNY, and Leadtek. Posted by: NosBoost300 my top choices are xfx and evga.. MSI has done me good for both a mobo and a graphics card, so i have no beef with them... and i'll agree with king austin... 22 inches is freakin amazingly awesome and huge Posted by: Fayt19 nice i think you guys inspired me to get that 22". Is there anything i should look for in a monitor to determine rather or not its good or not? only thing i know is the ms has to be low. Posted by: lancec2c30 well the contrast ratio is anther you should look at, 2000:1 is really nice, and 800:1 should be your minimum. And like you said the response time is also another you should look at if you are going to game with it. 8ms, 5ms, 2ms Posted by: KingAustin
Originally posted by Fayt19 nice i think you guys inspired me to get that 22". Is there anything i should look for in a monitor to determine rather or not its good or not? only thing i know is the ms has to be low.
Out of all the monitor choices that are listed earlier in this thread, you can't go wrong with any of them. Now the question is, does size mater? :p Posted by: Fayt19 size? yeah i cant afford no 30" monitor nor would i think i would even want one... But to tell you the truth if you could find a monitor that can reach 1600x1200 that would be awesome. I heard thats the perfect gaming res. But it would have to be under 400 dollars. >< Edit: Just checked...doesnt look like i can find one. but it orders 1680x1050 after 1600x1200. Is there not much of a difference or something? it just seems 1600x1200 would be bigger. I dont know but when i look at when they compare video cards in games they go by 800x600, 1280x1024 and 1600x1200. Posted by: KingAustin
Originally posted by Fayt19 size? yeah i cant afford no 30" monitor nor would i think i would even want one...
They do those either on a huge *** CRT monitor or a 24" LCD (which are over $700) 1680x1050 is perfect for gaming, and gaming on a 22" is nice :-D Posted by: Jumping_Bean514 I'm not sure why are you'r links or to newegg when I have you links that were cheaper and didnt charge for shipping. I guess if you like spending more money then go for it. Im so used to newegg I never really took the time to look at different sites. they were always cheap to me. What sites do you know?
Zipzoomfly.com is a good site I've gotten a few things from, tigerdirect.com has a few things slightly cheaper sometimes, also possibly amazon.com however don't always expect quick shipping if you're ordering from one of their users and not amazon itself (I bought a book once and it took 3 weeks to get here, $%^&*!) Posted by: Fayt19 Maybe ill get lucky with New Years special and if something is low ill pick it up then. As for the contrast ratio. whats the difference? there is that SCEPTRE 22" one that is like 1200:1 and there is a CHIMEI 22" one that is 800:1. about the same prices, the CHIMEI one looks a little better but idk anything and would rather have performance over looks. CHIMEI - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824252006 SCEPTRE - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824112005 Posted by: lancec2c30 contrast ratio is just the crsipsness of the screen. 2000:1 is superior to 800:1, but 800:1 is still really good, That is what mine is. Worth the price difference as of this moment? No freaking way. Posted by: Fayt19 so 20 more dollars for 400 more contrast isnt worth the it? it does have a 20 dollar mail in rebate also so its accually the same price. I just think the CHIMEI looks a little better maybe its the picture it shows in the monitor idk. Edit: more people bought the CHIMEI and has more reviews for it. Posted by: KingAustin Which Chimei monitor are you looking at? These two are practically the same except for the material color. Black Silver I own the black one, and no the price difference (regardless of how much) IMO wouldn't be worth it. Posted by: Fayt19 they are the same specs yet b/c that one is silver it costs 25 more dollars? lol thats funny. I kinda like that black one anyways. How do you like that monitor? How do you like that monitor?
I love it. It takes some getting used to, but that's just because it's widescreen and I'm used to things being square when maximized, not a rectangle. It's nice for PC gaming and gaming when I have my xbox 360 plugged in to it. Posted by: Fayt19 nice. So what games have you played on it? No ghosting at all? bright? hows the viewing angels? the stand? Posted by: KingAustin
Originally posted by Fayt19 nice. So what games have you played on it? No ghosting at all? bright? hows the viewing angels? the stand?
I've played Call of Duty 2 and Need for speed carbon. With carbon, since EA games is RETARDED, you have to search google for a widescreen mod since I guess they decided it would be too much of a hassle to put any widescreen resolutions in their games, *******s. But the mod is easy to do and runs the game perfectly. There's no ghosting on any monitors 8ms or under. The viewing angles from the side are nice, but the viewing angles from the top and bottom cause a lot of color change, but that's to be expected on any LCD. The stand has a nice grip system so it wont slide around very easily, and it has angle adjust (only to go up though, for example if you have it angled all the way down, it's perfect for eye level, but then you can angle it up) Not sure why they only made it to angle up since I cant really think of a situation in which you would need to be looking down at a monitor, but oh well. I give it 9/10 which is very very good since 10 is perfect. Posted by: Fayt19 nice, sounds like a really good monitor, thanks for you help dude vBulletin Copyright ©2000 - 2003, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited.
