I go to school until 1130, leave for work and arrive at 12. I work from 12 till 6 depending how many projects I have to do. I am IC3 certified (i know, crappy) and 50% A+ certified. (hardware) I have taken the A+ software 1 time, but sadly, failed by 1 question. Anyways, I am going to attempt it one more time. I am planning to attend Lincoln Technical Institute for a 2 year course. I know people say to avoid these schools. But a school that offers you an associates degree, A+ and Net+ within 2 years, I thought it was a good deal. My whole thing is, if I don't pass the A+ or Net+, and I just have the associates degree in PC Systems and Networking, would that be decent enough to make a serious living off of? I make a pretty decent paycheck every 2 weeks. More than any other 17 year old I know of. Posted by: superdave1984 If you have experience it will be enough. I have an associates degree, no certs, and I manage a network of around 100 PC's at a hospital. I always say the more paper on your wall, the more cash in your wallet. Get all you can afford to get and get as much hands on experience you can. A 19 yr old with a degree and over 2 years experience should be able to get a decent job. I doubt it. Don't only think about now, think about later. I'm not doubting your career choice, but think... once you get married, have a few kids, etc... how are you going to support them with what you get paid right now? You might say that's later, and you'll advance along, but with limited education, you might not. If anything, what you do at your job (how well you perform it, number of accomplishments, etc) will determine your advancement. I honestly don't think you can make a decent living being A+/Net+/PC Systems & Network specialist. However, I may be wrong but it is my opinion. HOWEVER, If you get a job with Goldman Sachs or any of those large banking companies, I do hear that you'll be able to make $$$ more than working at some regular IT company. But beware, you'll up against people with 4-year degrees (BS) and even those with MS degrees. But if you get a spot with Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, whoever, congrats Best of luck. [/B][/QUOTE] yes i meant the rest of my life with the serious living. i mean right now i am making around $18,000 a year. i just sent in my tax info and stuff and i started when i was 16. i was pretty amazed because i don't know many 17 year olds that make that. i also work 5 hrs a day because i attend school in the morning. now, it would definitely be more if i was full time. anyways, a month went by, i passed my a+ and i'm on my way for net+ etc. after this year i'm going for my associates degree. Posted by: M4A1 So, you make $18,000/yr... let's say that at most you advance, and make $25,000/year. That's NOT a whole lot of money. I would rethink your career goals.
