With wireless power, wouldn't there be power theft? Posted by: Meithan Yes, haha, that's a crucial issue the article fails to mention. Considering it's based on electromagnetic resonance, it would be hard to figure out a way to restrict what devices are "allowed" to pick up and use the power signal. It's not the same thing as a wireless network, where you can encrypt the signal so only specific users can make use of it. You can't encrypt energy. Really interesting article, though, thanks.
Well this might not be such a huge deal since so far the signal will only be able to go up to 16.4 feet (5m) This would be pretty awesome to see once they get a working model built, another step towards a wireless future :) Just imagine your computer room... no wires at all (hoping they make wireless dvi/vga signals :-p) and no need to charge anything....awesomeeeeeeeee! Also, this has gone through scientists minds I'm sure and I'm going to stick with their current opinion that it's safe. Posted by: bobojuice So if there's wireless power flying around your room wont you get electrecuted?! Posted by: KingAustin
Originally posted by bobojuice So if there's wireless power flying around your room wont you get electrecuted?!
I'm hoping you're joking. If you're not, read the article again. If you're still confused on the topic, stop thinking about it.
do you know what an electromagnetic wave is? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_radiation light is an electromagnetic wave at approximately 10^14Hz (100,000 GHz) electricity is the flow of electrons, which is different to electromagnetic waves. vBulletin Copyright ©2000 - 2003, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited.
