Is this still phone support for BellSouth or have they picked up something else? It was an allright starting point. Definitely gets you some experience in dealing with some "interesting" clients. You can at least put some Help Desk desk experience on your resume when you begin looking to get out of there. Its a tight ship they run there. You are certainly a number more than a person. But, beyond that its easy. They ahve documentation for 90% of what you'll be doing. So, you basically follow scripts until you know it all off the top of your head. I had a friend who also worked his way pretty far up before moving off to California. (He's not in IT in any way) Look into it. Could be fun. I'm up in Cleveland now with a very nice IT job.
