I am wondering if anyone knows were i can get a FTP SERVER that can run off of my computer, i need the server to have the following:

1: Prefferble Free (but i will be willing to pay upto about 50$USD)
2: NEEDS TO BE ACCESSIBLE FROM WAN AND LAN
3: if possible i need to have USER ACCOUNTS available with ADMIN access, Anonymous access, and Member access
4: I also want to be able to allow users to UPLOAD AND DOWNLOAD but not delete items....

what i would be useing this for is a music server for my band (and possibaly other local bands) , because right now we are working on a website, how ever the host (being a free host) will not allow MP3's on there server, so i asked if it MY BAND and i have the music file hosted somewere else if i would be able to play it on the site, they said it is ok as long as i am not doing anything that would be illeagl

i have tried one called BULLET PROOF but i cannot get it to work, if you can help me get it to work that would be super :P

(sorry if i post in rong place, i just thought since this has to do with internet it would be the right place)

FileZilla Server. Very easy to set up. I also suggest something like no-ip for an easy-to-remember domain.

You will be limited by the maximum upload speed of your connection. Consider paid hosting. It's cheaper than you may think.

tried FileZilla, i coulnt get it to work over WAN, it worked like a charm on a LAN tho...

Could be a router limitation. My router has problems too, if I upload large files to my server the UDP connection or somthing gets dropped. Need a good router for FTP server.

You will need to open port 21.

Some ISPs block certain ports to prevent spreading of worms and such. If this is the case, you will need to configure FileZilla to operate on another port.

Good luck.

try FTP YOU SERVE

if your ftp port is blocked, why dont you use some thing like tunneling , using paid tunneling service you would get smart speeds. in free service ,its really poor.

If port 21 is blocked, you can change the listening port of FileZilla Server:

FileZilla Server > Edit > Settings > General Settings.

Change the listening port from 21 to something that is unblocked and open on your firewall and router (like 2121). Users will have to enter this port manually in their FTP client when connecting.

thnx, but we fixed up the problem, me and my buddy were able to "build" a spare computer and we put Linux on it, made it a LOT easier ^^, now the only thing we gotta worry about is some kinda "point" system so you MUST upload 1 before you can download, were planning on haveing a 1/4 system, 1 upload will allow 4 downloads, and once we get this figured out its gunna be open to general public on my site :)
