I have installed MySQL many times before, but this time I am having a serious problem. It's on a windows machine and I can't get the service to start. It's only a small server I'm putting together as a side project, I'm thinking it as something to do with the fact that I desided to use Windows XP instead of dishing out the cash for Server. Either way, any suggestions? I've tried just about everything I can think of right down to using the installer cleanup utility from windows to rip it and reinstall it.

Yes, your solution can easily be solved with Apache. Simply install it on your root drive and it will take care of the rest. Check it out here http://httpd.apache.org/

Any problems installing let me know :)

I would uninstall all traces of MySQL, restart, and go with AppServ.

It includes Apache, MySQL, PHP, phpMyAdmin, and a few other spiffy things packaged in.

Aside from hosting at home, you can also check your ISP and see if they offer a few MBs of web space free with your account (many do). Hosting at home worked fine for me for a while- and it helped me save a few bucks a month.
