There aren't any good free mmorpg's. For instance, one gaming company makes a beautiful mmorpg and decides it should be free doesn't mean you won't be running into massive amounts of bugs and server problems. Most likely, the platform of the game build is crap as well. Examples: Planeshift; looks pretty good but terrible platform and servers. Pristontale; looks great but terrible server problems and full servers. A free mmorpg is free because they aren't paying much for servers, which means cheap crap servers. If you do run into a free mmorpg, one that has no server problems, or crappy platform, the game itself will probably be 2d and I'm not talking about nice 2d/3d like Diablo 2. Nice servers are expensive and require a lot of money to keep up; hence why EQ does so well.

if you want free mmorpg's apply for beta tests. only thing is the wipes they have (normally when updating features or going into new phase of testing), so you have to start over, oh lets not forget the bugs. put that aside and you get to play the game before most ppl and get a good feeling when it's released and you see it getting good reviews.

all that beta testing sounds cool, but master if ur looking for a MMORPG that is good, cheap and has plenty of room, then the best way to go is to play D2 i think.
i jus recently quit after 3 years, it was the only thing i played. Its free, and BNET do their best to keep hassles down, and i have to admit it is pretty addictive. but then again it doesnt look that great and it is ageing now. but FFXI :D and also WOW are coming and so i think maybe you should jus hang around a bit and wait for these (probly 5 yrs) but it is up to u... nothing out there that is quality that is free...

I find that the only free MMORPG are only the 15 day trials.
There is one of them that actaully give you an unlimited account, but they cap your leveling up.

A freind has told me that there is a pirate Ragnarok Online server with free account. The only problem that the guy seems to use the same connection for all this leeching too. My freind claims he connected, found that the connect was $#!+ slow. It turns out that the guy that downloading like crazy on the same connection.

As for info on this pirate server, i did not ask for the details. So don't ask me as I don't know.

All the best games will cost money. Its as simple as that. Their arent any extremely awesome games that are free you never heard of. Beta's arent all that great either. I want to play a REAL game, not some half *** version. If games like that are important to you, then paying shouldent be a huge matter. As long as your happy.

A good MMORPG is RuneScape. Fun once you get the hang of it, then gets boring as ****, because it takes hours to lvl up. I got to lvl 90 then said screw it.

Guild Wars looks awesome, as soon as i get that new AGP DFI board, i hope to get it. I just know very little about the game though. Looks great, i hear great things.

This site lists quite a few of free MMORPG games. If I were to make a suggestion, I would say go with Rubies of Eventide. I am playing it right now and its a blast. Guild wars is just blah. Its more of an action game, has a low level limit and everyone does the same quests. Not really an MMORPG by todays standards.

I also feel that Runescape is a very good free game. There is about a $5 per month membership if you wish to play the game with nearly weekly updates and the membership version is much larger with many more quests. The free version itself, though not as massive as the members' version, is still able to keep you busy for a long time if you like this sort of game. The free version almost acts as a place where you can start to learn things and level your character up in fighting, magic, mining, smithing, fishing, and several more skills and then upgrade your account to a member and access even more skills and quests.

The free version quests suck *** but it is still a fun game. There is a wide area where you can fight with other players and plenty of NPCs to fight as well. The game's graphics aren't bad for a free game and if you scroll to the bottom of the page and view 'Runescape Classic' (what the game looked like before the 3D update) you'll be surprised at how far the game has come. Also, I should mention that this game runs surprisingly well. I can't begin to express how crappy my old computer is, yet the game runs just fine on it with very little lag. Downloading the game and updates when they come out don't take very long and after downloaded it takes just a few seconds for the game to load every time you log on to play.

Same here. Great free game, but be careful as some people's lives revolve around that game........Quite a bit more than a few people have been playing that game solid for years.........I like how its an open browser game so you can play it on any computer easily that has java without installing anything. Ideal for school and work! Yay 200th post.

I think he means completely free, as in don't have to even make a one-off purchase. and is dungeon siege an MMO? In-fact Guild Wars isn't even an MMO-proper, since everywhere outside an outpost is instanced.

I think Guild wars sucked compared to WOW in my opinion if u want something as good as WOW go with wow there are no substitutes but if u must have a free MMO then go with Diablo 2 or Warcraft 3 even though warcraft 3 isnt an mmo the custom games are almost as addicting as WOW and the online gameplay is free.
