Accordining to a Japanese website they say that the games are going to be priced in this range. Everybody knew PS3 games were going to be expensive but anything over 50 or 60 bucks IMO is ridicolous. This is why I'm really against Blue-Ray, it's expensive and overkill. If they want HD movies and more space avilable for games they should just use HD-DVDs. With 15GB for a single-layer capicity (30GB for dual-layered and even Toshiba's 45GB). While not as big as blue-ray's 25GB single layered it's still very much cheaper and it's been on the market longer then Blue-Ray.

I'll just stick with my 360 thank you.

For me, anything over 50 bucks is ridiculous., and I rarely buy games for 50 unless they are top titles that I want

Posted by: aaronkupen

By the way, I just read an article today that pretty much states that all third party PS3 games have been confirmed to be 59.99.

Posted by: Beefcake

Yea there are articles with prices all over the place. From what I'm looking PS3 games in UK are 50 pounds and games in USA are between 60-80 bucks.

Posted by: Trifid

Cough, plus VAT, plus 'shipping costs' plus some more. You are looking at a price around £65 for top end - at least. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 70.

We have to pay £50 - $95 for games on the Xbox 360.

About 55% of the money we earn goes back to the gourvement.

Regardless if it is 60 or 100, it is too much for my tastes, especially if I really want to continue doing this as a main hobby. Most likely, I'll stick with the ps2 for most of 2007. **** might even freeze over and I might buy a used xbox...

Posted by: atomic tofu

for me, anything over $20 is borderline...if it's really really really good and $20 I'll buy. $10 no prob

:D

poor!

Posted by: aaronkupen

Yah, that is pretty poor. If you aren't willing to spend 20 bucks on something that is a hobby then... well it's probably not a real hobby anyway.

Posted by: atomic tofu

hmm, dissing the poor...tsk tsk

I'd rather invest my money in my library of dvd movies....ugh, 600+

:D

yes legit...don't pirate! (i know 90% or so here are pirates)
:p

thats horrible pricing for games + horrible pricing of the console= bad news for sony. I was hoping it would not be like this but it looks like a flop.I love xbox but i have a history with sony, most of my gaming and portable gaming is sony. But $ dpeaks and sonys is asking too much.

i think microsoft took the safe route they made an exelent console out of parts that are not that expensive and are not as hard to produce. Also i think it was a good idea for them to add on the HD player seperately so if theat format flops they dont have to support a propriatary console.

On the other hand sony used a disc format that has been built into the console what if blue ray flops?

Its really up to motion picure studios what ever format is more widely accepted by them will come out on top and be cheaper to produce.

Posted by: atomic tofu

actually, on the gaming end...I don't think Sony's inclusion of BR does anything in that regards. All it would affect is availability of the system and cost of it.

Imagine it like your computers cdrom/dvd combo drive....could be a combo burner/re-writer as well...only there if you need it and no loss if you don't.

Since the console games can't be played (and not meant to) on PCs albeit via unsupported emulation, the choice of either next gen blue laser drive is moot.

but we all have to acknowledge Sony is a consumer electronics company...can't do any wrong really unless thy choose to do so. Just remember how nobody thought Sony could do a video game console...then they did and it was a success. Why? It was a piece of electronics!

Ahh, I loved watching the birth of te ps1 back then.

I've never bought any sony system btw :) Don't hate them though, I'm just an old man gamer. Mahjong!

I have a hard enough time paying 59.99 for xbox 360 games. paying 75 to 100 is gana be crazy

Posted by: aaronkupen

Guys, check some sites. 1up.com is one of the few that actually state an announcement by Sony saying that third party games will be 59.99. They will not be 75-100.

Posted by: Beefcake

Yes, American pricing is going to be 60 dollars from what I read. However this is just launch titles and many believed that Sony was going to make it's money off game titles and not just the console (because the price to make the console is really high, they are not making much money from console sales.)

This means the profit developers made from games won't be as high because of the expensive BR format. Sony is really cutting it tight, should just have went with the HD-DVD route.

I also hear that BR players are priced so high to make the PS3 look good, but that is just a rumor.

ughh...I can't tell what that's referring to but I played sega!

I had the SMS man...I thought that thing was cool...or kewl...or kewel, lol. Especially the 3d glasses, which they never really supported....what? That was "real" 3d, lol. They should bring that back to the xbox 360, in affordable terms, not the overpriced retailing model.

You know, if it costs 5 bucks to make just charge $20...not $500! yeesh :D

On pricing though and the slightly obscure phrasing of your post....

you guys obviously didn't play neogeo! $250 was it for a cart? Can't remember if they were more, something like $500 too.

NeoGeo...2d forever! Indeed.

****...might as well stick to good ol' pc

Posted by: Thresh

Yep, even more of a reason why PC is better. I think prices are even starting to catch up with them too, thanks to PS3.

Posted by: krazyq

For some reason, sony likes getting out new and wonderful stuff, but seriously...is it worth paying that much. Just stick to ure 360's and Pc. Its lik the ATRAC music format, it could store more songs onto a CD, but who gave a crap, ppl stuck with mp3s. Sony is gonna loose this fight, thats my opinion. i know im not rich enought to afford that. I got better things to do then waste my money like that.

Posted by: aaronkupen

Is everyone here missing the fact that games will pretty much be 50-70 bucks? As of now, all the games I see are 59.99. Pretty comparable to the 360.

Posted by: n30phYte

still if they cost 70 bucks and 360 games cost 60, m$ wins right?

why buy a more expensive console with more expensive games just so they can try to get back some of the money they lose on the blu-ray drive.

gg sony but...you lose.

Posted by: aaronkupen

Again, most games right now are 59.99 which is the same as xbox360. 70 dollar games are just a possibility, but as of now I really don't see any games that are officially 70 bucks.

Well maybe the more expensive console with more expensive games (which isn't necessarily true) appeals to the person more than the less expensive one because of game selection? Sony doesn't necessarily lose because their console is a little bit more money.

Finally, you should do some research and look at current statistics on the Playstation 3. Majority of developers have high hopes for it and based on another survery the majoriy of Americans would support Playstation 3 rather than the Xbox360.

Posted by: jjrodezno

guys guys!

it doesn't matter IF sony were to launch its games for $70-100
why?
because while its true that some fans will buy them. not EVERYONE will.
Meaning if their sales slip = sony loses money.
Therefore, avoid buying over priced games and wait until their prices drop.
If nobody is buying the games then its for sure that the prices will drop really fast.. basic rule of supply and demand (i think. haha)

that's the most illogical reasoning i've ever heard. one measly survey isn't going to give an accurate description of something like this. i'm not going to try to explain this to you because if you're posting here then you should know why that one survey is completely biased. it boils down to one word:

FANBOY

of course one survey you read will tell you something like that. a mjority of sony fanboy's WILL support the ps3 more than the 360. that's a given. i'm sure there were probably surveys like that for the 360 too when it was about to come out.

sounds like someone needs to re-research.

Actually the price of making the console is so high they're LOSING money on them(the article i read said about $200-300 per console). but supposedly they'll make it all back in game sales. I hope so cuz the PS3 is the console with the games I want.

Also, according to Sony, 7 of the major 8 motion picture companies are backing Blu-Ray. I'm not sure how true that is. But, so many companies (like apple toshiba etc.) have put in countless hours to developing I can't imagine that it will go unused totally. But alas, only time will tell. We'll see how it all goes in the end.

Posted by: aaronkupen

Actually, there were a number of surveys, but I was specifically refferring to the Fumitsu one which is a pretty reputable magazine if you didn't know that. Not to mention, sony has a big name with americans and the average person would recognize the name Playstation over Xbox. So there, I do think that the survey makes a lot of sense.

Posted by: murphy235

Yes, I also read a survey from an unbiased source saying 8.6 mill. Americans are prepared to spend full price for a PS3. Whereas only 4.6 mill. would pay full price for a Wii and only 800,000 would pay full price for a 360. Besides, in the global market Sony has the edge for MS because Japan sells so few systems in comparison to Sony and Nintendo, so MS already loses there. But it's pointless to bash the system til it actually comes out.

Where in the world did you get that information?

Posted by: aaronkupen

Common sense man, even many non gamers have a playstation 2 in their house. It is pretty basic even if you just look at the number of ps2's and ps1's sold in america versus xbox and 360 combined. Playstation is a name that even non gamers know about. Non gamers bought it because... "hey, it plays dvds and games for pretty much the same price as that dvd player... let's get it". Not to mention that the name Playstation has been synonymous with console gaming and gaming in general for quite some time.

Posted by: TheDiceman

Looks liek they are going ot match the 360 priice point to me.

Posted by: n30phYte

You can't really compare the amount of PS 1&2 sold to the amount of Xbox & Xbox360's sold. Playstation's have simply been around longer. Of course they have sold more.

That's common sense.

Posted by: aaronkupen

Okay... that is the whole point of what I was trying to say., and of course I can compare them as much as I want. My point was the name recognition is there BECAUSE of that as well as the things I have previous said. Try reading in context.
