Traffic monetization

Most people opening a new website or forum board have got as their primary goal to generate an online revenue using affiliate banners or contextualized advertising such as Google Adsense or the Yahoo! Publisher Network.

Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to have a revenue when starting a site from scratch simply because you don't have enough traffic to generate sales, nor clicks.

For this reason, my personal advice is not to focus on online revenue first when opening a new website. I would look more for SEO and putting quality content on the web; a thumb rule is to ask yourself: am I really helping my visitor? Would I be satisfied when reading this?

Nevertheless, traffic will come when google will start indexing your content and there you will start your battle against SERPS and competition :) the boring link building work will be needed and you will need to constantly update your links!

Once you have got traffic, then start thinking how to make money from it. I have seen too many people thinking reverse, and this does not pay off at all! ;)

Hope this helps!
