I want to invest the money into buying a server so one I got maybe 2k or so ill buy a server. I want the server to be hosted in a Datacenter so I can sell off my hosting. Ive never done this before so I want to know. How do I go about setting up the server and everything for the datacenter so I can just plug it in and boot it up (because i dont think you can use monitors there or w/e). I dont want to have to use linux and apache I want a basic managments system where i can just designate partitions of the drive to different clients. *What managements osftware do I use, and how do I set it up? *how do data centers work, do they let u set up on spot? *how much does a Data center cost per month on average for one rackspace? *is it an easy way to make money *should I use linux or someting else. thanks Lea. PS: yes I am a noob and I just want to learn how it all work to see if it is a possibilty for me. Posted by: Streetz Lets start with the easier questions first. *is it an easy way to make money -Starting a business is NEVER an "easy way to make money", especially when it comes to internet based companies. It could be 1-2 years before you start to break even. *should I use linux or someting else. -This depends on personal taste. What features do you want, what OS do you know best? FreeBSD and CentOS are great OSs. *What managements osftware do I use, and how do I set it up? There's many different out there, both free and not free. I used DirectAdmin for a few years and loved it. Great features, easy, fast, and awesome support. *how do data centers work, do they let u set up on spot? -Depends on the datacenter. Usually you set it up yourself, and ship it to them. *how much does a Data center cost per month on average for one rackspace? -Depends on the Datacenter. "PS: yes I am a noob and I just want to learn how it all work to see if it is a possibilty for me." With that statement, I do not recommend purchasing a server and putting it in a datacenter. Go and "rent" a dedicated server (possibly managed to start) from a company. For $80/month you could have a nice server setup and start to learn. Realize that $80/month is ONLY for the server so that doesn't include control panel, billing system, help desk system, etc. Good luck. Posted by: lea0001 ok thx Could you recommend any Dedic. Servers? And also being in Australia would I be better of reselling to Australians and pay for an Australian Decicated server instead of doing it the American way? Posted by: Streetz I've had my dedi through LayeredTech. Good company, good support, excellect connection. My server never went down except when I needed to reboot for upgrades and things, so I was constantly at 100+ days uptime. But of course it's a company in the US. I would search around for a dedi co in Australia, make things easier. (Remove next sentance if it's breaking rules) I would look around webhostingtalk.com to find some recommended companies. vBulletin Copyright ©2000 - 2003, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited.
