depends on a lot of things.

- competition (the actual key words)
- google
- your seo
- type of links

i used to say.. read and learn.
but now...there is SO much wrong, false stuff on the net... you just have to learn (from experience)

You can search for the links of your competitors and you'll know. I use IBP 8.0 and it's great...

It's not only the quantity of links but also the quality of links. By quality I meant links from page rank of 5 would be better than page rank of 4. Also links from related topics websites are better than links from unrelated topics websites.

That pretty much sums it up.
You need a lot of good quality links to come up on top of Google search result. Do a search for your competitors' URLs and see where their links are. Add your links there too.

I also forgot to mention the "anchor text" - which is the text use to link to a website. See example below:

[url=http://www.celergy.com]structured cabling installation - national rollouts company[/url]

The anchor text used to link to your company's website has as much influence probably as the key words of your website....

As you can imagine the company I work for does [url=http://www.celergy.com/]nationwide structured cabling installations[/url] for multi-location companies and large enterprises. We also do [url=http://www.celergy.com/WiFi-Installations.htm]wifi / WLAN installation[/url] nationwide as well as [url=http://www.celergy.com]rollouts project managment[/url].

The above is probably a better exaple of how anchor text would be used.

my clan website is now in place 1 of google search (type in "loxz clan") I just got a few ads, did have google affiliates but they been disabled now cos people clicked em too much lol. you can see my site at [url]www.loxzclan.com[/url]

The more the better! It's up to your competition and the niche you are ranking for. Also, you need to keep your links flowing all the time, if you don't want to be outranked someday ;)
