has anyone tried taking their stock lga775 HSF, scraping the thermal tape off, and replacing it with as5? If so... What were the results..

(of course i know that i need to use isopropyl alcohol to clean the heatspreader of the cpu and the heatsink..)

i haven't but you should probably list the processor model number if you want an accurate answer ;).

i don't see why it would be any different than any other type of socket/processor?

i expect it would lower the temps...

I've done it before. It lowered the tempature a little bit but it was a pain to install. It usually takes about 3 seconds to install the HS/Fan but without the space from the pad it took forever for it to go on right.

Whoa. I've never noticed that. My crappy Intel stock cooler havs this aluminum shim on it, like tape. I never really took notice of it, left it on, and put AS5 on over it. I guess I can fix that later, for something to do, when I get bored...
