Kia Coming out with a New Car

Kia's coming out with the Soul in Spring. Supposed to get 30 mpg, and has some nice technology. What do you think...would you drive one?

Kia put on quite a show today, prancing out a slew of new Souls at the LA Auto Show. Expected to drop as an early 2010 model in late '09, the new boxy Soul will go head-to-head with the equally-new Nissan Cube for the affections of ex-xB buyers here in the States. While the Cube really goes after the square-edged look, Kia has softened the Soul. The box's rising beltline starts lower in the front and gradually sweeps skyward at the rear, adding a unique look to the little crossover. A standard 1.6L four banger pushes roughly 120 horses through a five-speed manual tranny and an optional 2.0L unit with about 140 horsepower can be mated with either the stick or a four-speed automatic on uplevel models. Each should exceed 30 mpg on the highway.

As I already own a Kia I am already familiar with the product, but not to say I'm impartial to them, I have a Kia Spectra and I get almost 40 MPG highway and 33 city, so the gas issue isn't that big to me. It's a nice looking machine, but not really suited to my needs as I have a Great Dane! I need something that will fit a miniture horse! LOL but it's not bad, if I were in the market for another car I might give it a look.

Are you blind looks awful imo. Technically its not bad though, just don't like the appearance. I nearly got a kia rio as my first car then found a beaut of a vauxhall corsa and couldn't resist.

Looks okay, I might be shopping for cars in about 6 months or so and I'll have to keep this one in mind. I'm sort of stuck between a toyota corolla or a chevy impala right now, though.

I guess the Car boxes are getting popular, because Honda Element/ All Scions (except the tC) are really popular

that's pretty sad they can only manage 30mpg out of a 1.6l w/ 120hp. my dads vette gets 28-30mpg on the highway. that's a 6.0l V8 w/450hp. and that thing is ugly. FAIL. looks like a knock off of the xb

im stumped on this mpg thing.

back in 96, i had a brand new ford escort, it got up to 44 mpg on the highway.

why is it a big deal that these newer cars are getting 30+mpg?
even some of the hybrids are only getting 25-35mpg.

it just does not make any sense to me.

do you guys remember the geo metro?
that little car was 50+mpg on that 3 cyl moter.
